Erma Jean Gales

Obituary Erma Harris Gales was born January 22, 1956 in Newport News, Virginia to Lessie and the late Herman Harris, Sr. She peacefully joined the angels of heaven and entered eternal rest on April 30, 2015. She graduated from Franklin High School in Franklin, Virginia in 1974. Erma furthered her education at Virginia State majoring in Business Administration where she received her degree in 1978. Erma was employed by Virginia Union University as a Financial Aide Counselor for 15 years of dedicated service. She was instrumental in servicing the financial needs of students, and was respected by her peers as well as the students. At a young age, she was baptized at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Franklin, Virginia. Erma later transferred her membership to Quioccasin Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Mosley. She served as a Sunday School Teacher. For the last 13 years, she was married to her devoted husband, Rev. Dr. George T. Gales. From that union their lovely daughter, Leslie Elizabeth Gales was born. She became First Lady at Bibleway Baptist Church where she served on the Children’s Ministry and was the former Sunday School Superintendent. In her leisure she enjoyed shopping and traveling, especially to New York to see shows on Broadway and listening to gospel music. She was a very spiritual person that loved the Lord. Erma was a caring wife, mother, daughter, sister and faithful friend. She loved her family to the fullest and lived life with no regrets. Erma bought joy to all the lives she touched and lived her life with a constant and consistent display of spiritual guidance and self respect. She was the truest example of all a mother should be. She leaves to mourn a loving husband, Rev. Dr. George T. Gales; daughter, Leslie E. Gales; two sons, George T. Gales III, and Omar Gales (DeLando); seven grandchildren; caringmother, Lessie D. Harris; two sisters, Wanda Harris and Avon Jones; two brothers, Herman Harris Jr. (Brenda) and Donald Harris; dearest friend, Rosa Boyd; a host of other relatives and friends. Thank you Lord for the many wonderful years with her!
