Dorothy Mae White
November 16, 1924 - August 1, 2021
Very quietly and peacefully on Sunday morning, August 1, 2021, surrounded by her loving children, almighty God called her name, “Dorothy Mae White.” With grace, she gently closed her eyes and joyfully walked through heaven’s gate where she was greeted with open arms and reunited with her heavenly family. Dorothy was born on November 16, 1924 to the late Fitz Lee Petty and Sallie Ann Petty in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. She received Christ at an early age. When she moved her family to Richmond, Virginia she joined Chicago Avenue Baptist Church. She was a faithful member until her health began to fail. Dorothy married the love of her life, Larry White on April 22, 1943 and 15 children were born of this union. Dorothy worked at Crawford Manufacturing Company as a seamstress until she retired. She enjoyed designing beautiful, custom-made clothes for herself and her children. She was a beautiful, strong, kind-hearted loving angel with a big heart of gold and lots of love to give. She raised her children with love, morals, respect, valves, trust, and family unity. Dorothy had a green thumb for all type of plants. Her favorite was yellow roses. Her passion was going fishing with her children and she always caught the most fish. She loved to cook and made the best sweet potato and chocolate pies. She gifted each of her children patchwork quilts. In her pastime she completed puzzle books and enjoyed playing domino’s with her children. Her children and her grandchildren were very special to her. Her biggest blessing was all the love she shared and spending time with family. It was a pleasure caring for our mother. She greeted us each morning. She never complained and when asked what she wanted to eat, she would say whatever you bring me. When her food was put before her, she would ask if we had prepared a plate for ourselves. Whatever you did for her she always said “thank you”. That was our “Sweets” (the name her brothers and sisters gave her). She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings; two sons, Isadore and Obey; and four beloved grandchildren, Garnett, Cherie, Jamie and Dorothy. Dorothy leaves to mourn cherished memories 4 daughters, Armentine Tune, Dorothy Hines (Willie), Hortense White and Penny Holcomb; 9 sons, Paul, Johnny, James (Georgette), Wayne, Larry Jr., Stepfon, Daniel, David and Joseph (Lenee´); 33 grandchildren – devoted Roxie Ann Tune; 81 great grandchildren; 28 great great grandchildren; 1 brother, John Petty; 2 sisters-in-law, Earnestine and Shirley Petty; 2 chosen sons, Larry Smith and Hawthorne Wilks as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Dorothy, you will be cherished, missed, and never forgotten. We all love you so much! -The Family- You always answered “I’m kicking but not high” when asked how you were. Now you are still kicking, but now you are kicking high.
