Deborah Harris

Deborah Gale Harris nee Brice was born on December 29, 1953 in Baltimore, Maryland. She was the only daughter of the late John and Rosalie Brice. Debbie was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. She graduated from Eastern High School with the class of 1971. She earned her Associate in Arts Degree at the Community College of Baltimore and studied at Morgan State University. Debbie was employed by the State of Maryland and worked in the Procurement Office at the Maryland Port Administration, Maryland State Department of Education and Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development. After many classifications within the Office of Business Services/Procurement, Debbie retired with 42 years of dedicated service as Administrator I Procurement Officer. On August 4, 2000, Debbie married the love of her life and her best friend. Roosevelt P. Harris, Jr. They were married for 20 years. Debbie accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age. She was baptized and became a member of First Mr. Olive Freewill Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Bishop Leo K. Ceaser. She maintained her membership under the leadership of Bishop Oscar Brown. While a member of First Mr. Olive, Debbie served on the Music Ministry for over 40 years and was a member of Sunday School. In August 2011, she became a member of New Psalmist Baptist Church. Debbie loved attending worship services at Firt Mt. Olive, New Psalmist Baptist Church, St. John CC Church, Tabernacle of the Lord's Church, Charity Church and St. Martin's Church of Christ. She also enjoyed Gospel Concerts, Ebenezer AME God is a Wonder Conference and the National Convention of Choirs and Choruses (Dorsey Convention). Debbie's love for the ministry led her to become a member of several community choirs. Debbie was a member of the MD Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America. She attended the National Conventions for over 20 years. She was also a member of the Inspirational Praise Choir under the direction of Eldridge Branch. George McCoy and Company, Maryland Suburban Mass Choir, Sanctuary choir at St. John CC Church, under the direction of the late Reverence Ernest Long, and an original, member of the Excelsior Choral Ensemble under the direction of Harian Scott. Debbie enjoyed life to the fullest. she loved traveling, shopping, going to the movies, Jazz concerts, reading magazines and adult entertainment at Maryland Live. Debbie departed life on may 6, 2021. She leaves to cherish fond memories: her loving and dedicated husband, Roosevelt P. Harris, Jr.; father-in-law, Roosevelt Harris, Sr.; sisters-in-law, Rose Jennings (George), Deloris Weaver, and Constance Annette Harris (Chris); brother-n-law, Earl Harris (Melissa); Godmother, Mother Virginia Price; Adopted Mother, Alice Blackwell; cousin/sister, Ola Mae Talford; The Brice Family in Rock Hill, South Carolina; cousin, Lonnie Bell Ferguson; the Brice Family in Greensboro North Carolina; cousins Griffen and Lula Lewis in Baltimore, Maryland; her work son, Keith Mfume; special brothers, Alvin Talley, Melvin White, Damon Gasque (Mary), and Dennis Corthorn (Percillia); a host of adopted sisters; nieces and nephews; and special family members (you know who you are).
