    DAISY MAY POWELL

    May 16, 1928 - March 25, 2022

Daisy May Powell was born May 16, 1928, to the late James Shoffner and Dorothy Sharp at Provident Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. She received most of her formal education in the Baltimore City School System and continued her study having graduated from Cortez Peters Business School. Before retiring after over twenty-five years in public service, Daisy worked as a Computer Key Punch Operator and a Claims Examiner for the Social Security Administration. Daisy also enjoyed working as a volunteer with Enoch Pratt Public Library and later with the Share Food Program for Seniors, where she delivered fresh meals to the elderly. As a volunteer, she also played the organ at church funerals. She was hardworking, determined, diligent, organized, intelligent, enterprising, strong willed, independent, dignified, and resourceful. Her great sense of pride, dignity, and artistic flare were reflected in her character and in her tasteful sense of style in clothing and furnishings and passion when playing the piano and organ. In fact, her clothes always fit her so well, her sisters crowned her the one with that “Coke a Cola body shape.” Her baby sister said, “As a child she was so very proud to walk with her big sister down the street” for heads would always turn their way with a smile. Daisy was also outspoken and loved studying the Bible and travel. She was also known for her skill of stretching a dollar until it ached, ensuring that her children had food to eat, clothes on their backs, and a nice house to live in. We are still amazed at her love, sacrifice, and steadfast commitment to provide a better life for herself and her five boys. Daisy’s cherished sons Rufus Larry Shoffner and Martinus Estee Westray’s passing have preceded her death. She now leaves to mourn: Her loving Sons, William Wall, Henry Westray Jr., and Anthony Westray; her devoted sisters; Meritta Powell, Sarah Bush, and Valerie Banks, grandchildren; Tressa Harris, Lisa Wall, Donovan Wall, Mark Wall, Pamela Demby, great-grandchildren, and many other relatives, and friends. Please wear a mask. In lieu of flowers, send a donation to: Gwendolyn Lloyd, MA GEDCO/Senior Network of North Baltimore (make check payable to) 5828 York Road Baltimore, Maryland 21212
