Cecilie Ann Hood

Our beloved Cecilie Ann “Cecil” Hood was born on January 27, 1944, in Kinston, North Carolina to the late Fred Lee Dudley and Kitty Louise Dudley. She is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Cornelius Hood, Jr.; brothers, Fred Lee Dudley Jr. and Lionel Dudley; and her sisters, Geraldine “Jerry” Neale, Georgia Ann Chapman, and Gloria Gean Thomas. Cecilie accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at the tender age of ten at Burning Bush Church in Kinston, North Carolina where she also sang in the choir. She also attended and sang as a soloist at St. Marks Church of Christ Disciples of Christ for many years as an adult. Cecilie graduated from Adkin High School in Kinston. This is where she met and married her only love and high school sweetheart, Cornelius Hood Jr. She had a voice like an angel so this allowed her to participate in many events in school. They had four beautiful children together. She was a very loving and dedicated wife and mother. So many who knew her described her as humble, but with a very strong spirit. A person who very rarely raised her voice in anger to anyone, that’s if she ever did. She showed her love for family through cooking and she was the best cook. She loved her daytime soap operas, especially The Young & The Restless, and at one time had a huge collection of romance novels which she loved to read. Cecilie worked at the Richmond Nursing Home in Virginia for 30 years of dedicated service before her retirement. She initially started as a nursing assistant. However, when she noticed the patients didn’t have many activities to do throughout the day, she started planning events for them. This led to a promotion to activities director at the nursing home. Her activities program was so successful, it was highlighted on the local news. But Cecilie being the humbler person she was, did not choose to speak. Her best traits included a strong sense of independence, gratitude for simple pleasures in life, knowing the importance of friendship, and living with spiritual purpose. She welcomed all occasions to share her blessings with others. Cecilie was devoted to her family and truly loved. She encouraged her family to walk in unity and never forget where they came from. On August 1, 2022, God entered her room and called her home to step into the Kingdom of eternal life. She leaves to cherish her memories to four caring children, Reginald Hood (Shirley), Cornelius Hood III (Tina), Stephanie Giles (Mike), and Sharon Clifton (Tony); adored five grandchildren, Shawn Freeman, Brandon Hood (Michelle), Michael Giles, Cornelius “Trey” Hood IV, and Roman Giles; siblings, John Dudley (Barbara), Deloris Reddick (Linwood), Henry “Dapp” Dudley, Bishop Alphonso E. Dudley (Deborah), Larry Dudley (Cathy), Ernest Chapman and Herman Aytche; along with being blessed to have a devoted extended family including Jacklyn “Jackie” Webster, James “Jimmy” Rhem, Rose Martin, Barbara, and Ryland Jackson; a host of many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and caring friends. Cecilie was so loved and will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her.
