    Catherine Elizabeth Brown

    July 29, 1945 - April 16, 2021

On April 16, 2021, Catherine Elizabeth Cotman Brown fondly known as "Buddy" peacefully slipped into eternal rest. She was born on July 29, 1945 to the late Henry W. Jones, Sr. and Annie Hampton Jones. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved son, Kyle M. Cotman, Sr. and her sister, Gloria Pugh. At an early age, Buddy confessed Christ as her Lord and Savior and became a member of Little Elam Baptist Church, Charles City, VA. She graduated from Ruthville High School located in Charles City, VA. Buddy was united in holy matrimony to Leroy M. Cotman ("Boo"} on Christmas day 1963. This union was blessed with two loving sons. She later married Samuel J. Brown. Buddy was employed as an Administrative Assistant with the State of Virginia at both the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) and the Department of Information Technology {DIT) for a combination of 25+ years. As a gifted woman of many talents, she was employed with Hertz after which she ventured into entrepreneurship as the owner of 'Buddy's Crafts' specializing as a wedding coordinator and interior decorator. Buddy was a 'glamour girl' known for her style and fashion. She enjoyed researching the latest trends to elaborately decorate her home and yard as well as the homes of others. She never missed an opportunity to shop and in later years cont;inued to do so via catalogs and online. While not an avid television viewer, Buddy was Judge Judy's #1 fan. She would promptly tell family and friends to call her back later if anyone called during Judge Judy. She loved entertaining family and friends and welcomed any chance to cook one of her fabulous meals for others. Buddy whole-heartedly embraced the saying "Fun, Food and Family." Above alt else, Buddy had an unwavering love for her family, especially her sons, daughter-in law {Monica), and grandchildren. She gladly and frequently shared how 'perfect' they were and dared anyone to disagree. After experiencing health challenges later in life, Buddy was blessed to have Maude Claiborne, Sallie Fauntleroy, and Reitha O'Neal dedicate their time to serve as faithful and compassionate caregivers. Buddy was grateful for their thoughtfulness and treasured their friendship. Buddy leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Sam Brown; her "Precious'' son, Craig L. Cotman (Monka); loving grandchildren, Alexander (Alex), Andrew (Drew), Kyle Jr. (her "Puddin"), Kyla and Chole; siblings, Bertha Jones, Iva Johnson (Rev. James H. Johnson); Henry Jones, Jr. (Evangelist Melissa Jones); and Jeanette Jones; daughter-in-law, Christina Cotman; stepchildren, Tori Higgs, Brittany Jones, and Tasheka Jones-Saunders; one uncle, Oliver Hampton (who gave her the nickname "Buddy"); one aunt, Hilda Cotman (Stanley); a devoted niece, Jennifer Harris who shared her talent for qafts anddecorating; nieces and nephews Calvin, Patrice, Joi, Jamie, Marcie, Henry, Eleschia, Malcolm, Marcus and Maya; In-laws: Kim, Kyle, Daryl and Thomas Brown, Jr. and Frances B. Jefferson, A host of cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives, and friends, including devoted friends Rev. Charlene Gresham, laFran Wooten, Maude Claiborne, Bettie Gresham, and Yvonne Baylor. The family of Catherine "Buddy" Brown would like to express their heartfelt and sincere gratitude to Dr. Michael Sheehan (Bon Secours) and Emily Monn, RN CC (United Healthcare) for their years of dedicated service to ensure Buddy received optimum health care.
