Carlton Lee Vick
January 28, 1939 - October 12, 2021
Carlton Lee Vick was born to the parents of Tanner and Blannie Vick in Garysburg, NC, on Saturday, January 28, 1939; with his parents' union, he was the youngest of their three children. His older siblings were Edward Tanner and Marjie Geraldine Holmes which preceded him in death. At an early age, he left home to follow his sister's path; and moved from North Carolina to the District of Columbia. Throughout the city, they shared housing until they both became grounded with their career. He had multiple jobs, such as dishwasher at Georgetown University, and other jobs as a restaurant help and a jewelry cleaner. He married Katherine Vick in September 1972 and had two children Carlissa and Whitney. They moved into a NE apartment, and divorced several years later. He remained at his NE apartment until his health started to fail. He retired from AFL-CIO in 2004, where he worked 14 years after leaving Railway Labor Union. At his retirement party hosted by AFL-CIO, John Sweeney, former President and other leaderships spoke. Many people knew him as Vick - Vick past time was fishing, going to Atlantic City, and horse racing. He often traveled to casinos with his friends LC, Sam, Thomas, and his companion Hazel Foster during his retirement years. He often had fishing trips with his cousin Todd, William, Tim Foster, and other family members and friends. He loved telling memories of past family members of cousin Ben and his cousin they called Fry. Vick just loved reminiscing of memories with all. When the world started going through Covid, that's when his health began to fail. Being Vick, the independent man who walked everywhere and traveled to nearby casinos in other states. Wouldn't accept the offer to move in with his daughter in NC at first. The Lord directed three earthly angels Kita Foster, Kelley Davis, and Donna Washington, who assisted when Carlissa was unable. His grandson Dylan, 14 at the time faithful, stepped up and helped his grandfather when Vick's only son wouldn't until the very end. When he finally decided to move to NC with his daughter, it was difficult, especially with Covid and shortage of home health aids; but the Lord sent a man named Kenny his way years ago that he referred to as a member of the family. Not family, by marriage or blood, but a person who carried for his daughter throughout her health battles and the one who stayed beside him until he took his last breath. Carlton Lee Vick lived a life as Frank Sinatra would say, "My way" he wasn't a person who went to church on Sunday, but a person who prayed on his knees every night. He wasn't a man who cared about people's opinions but did a little extra to help them to develop a more prominent statement. A father who didn't give traditional support instead gave his wisdom in a riddle or a story and said, "You will figure it out" He loved quoting MJ – "Man in the Mirror" and James Brown "Try me." He was a man who did it "HIS WAY." He always said," Once people stop trying to please the world, then you can please God." He transitioned from his earthly body on October 12, 2021. in Baltimore, Maryland. "When you walk, it's good to look up, but sometimes one has to look down and around, so you don't miss the jewels or signs of life."Quoted by Vick
