Bernard S. Watts

A Time To Be Born Bernard Stanley Watts, son of the late Howard Watts and Mabel Laws-Watts, was born on October 26, 1948. in Baltimore, Maryland. He was the fourth of the seven children born to his parents. A Time To Plan He received his formal education in Baltimore City Public Schools, where he graduated from Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School in 1966. He went on to Baltimore Junior Colleze, where he was an avid sports enthusiast and played on the basketball team. Bernard was drafted into the U.S, Army in 1969. He served in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1971. Bernard then went on to receive his Bachelor of Science degree from University of Baltimore in 1976, Bernard had various positions throughout his work history. He started his professional career at Blue Cross Blue Shield in accounting and concluded his work time at Comcast before retiring. During his lifetime he received numerous awards, recognitions, and citations. They included: Certificate of Recognition from the National Association of Black Veterans, Son's of Allen Men's Ministry of the AME Church. Second Episcopal District, Man of the Year from Bethlehem AME Church. Governor's Citation for Dedicated Work Veterans, Senate of MD Francis H. Brown/Edgar Lee Save the Children Certificate, and Department of Veterans Affairs Certificate of Appreciation. He was also a member of the Trustee Board, Usher Board, and Lay Organization of Bethlehem AME Church. Other organizations he enjoyed being a dedicated member of, were Professional Black Men. and Save the Children Save the Nation. Most recently his greatest passion was for his fellow veterans. He was an active member of the National Association of Black Veterans. His impeccable work ethic, commitment and dedication to ensuring veterans received the care and benefits they deserved lead to his promotion in 2018 as Commander of the Baltimore Chapter, #0053. The members cherished him for his dedicated service. A Time To Sow At an early age he accepted Christ as his Lord and personal Savior. He was a faithful member of Bethlehem AME Church. He was true servant of God, and he showed that with his actions. He had the spirit and heart of giving and helping. Whoever needed him, whenever they needed him, they knew they could always count on him. He was a great mentor to young people, encouraging and advising them to seek a good education and making the best of what life had to offer by working hard to achieve their goals. A Time For Family Bernard was a devoted father to his children, grandfather to his grandchildren and affectionately known as Great Grand Pop Pop by his Great-grandson Troy. He had an unmatched and unconditional love for his family and friends. He always stressed the importance of family and was always known for giving his famous "Bernie-style" dinners. He has touched the lives of many with his kind and loving spirit. May the work that he has done speak for him. For those who knew him well, let us not forget that he also had his sarcasm and corny jokes. A Time For Rest Over the past few years, his health declined to the point where he was no longer able to be everything to everybody although he continued to try. He was a real fighter and never wanted anyone to do anything for him that he felt he could do for himself. Family, friends and loved ones saw Bernard as the real trooper that he was. On September 26, 2024, his work here on earth was complete and the Lord called him home to sweet eternal rest. He is preceded in death by his sister Rosalind Gibbs. He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter Tonya Bernette, two sons, Synji Malik (Sevonne) and Darryl Omar (Angel); grandchildren Shardee. Corey, Michael, TreShaun, Shadawn, Kevin, Damon, Adrianna, Tessai, Jessica, Brandon; twenty-three great-grandchildren; two brothers Ronald and Howard (Jacqueline) three sisters Diane. Zakia (Hassan), Donna (Anthony); Godsons; Bernard Coleman and Montez Torry and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends.
