    Barbara Ann Burrell

    May 24, 1944 - April 27, 2021

Barbara Ann Burrell came joyfully into this life on May 24, 1944 to the late Thomas J. Waddy and Alice J. Waddy in Richmond, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Yolanda Evette Richardson. Barbara accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior as a young child at the age of 10. She was a member of Cedar Street Baptist Church which was known to be the family church for all her life. She had a genuine love for God and ministered to many souls in her travels, operating in the gifts and fruit of the Holy Spirit. She loved to pray. Her life was a living example of the Bible verse, Ephesian 4:32 – “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.” She was an amazing woman of God and to her family, as well. Our beloved Barbara was affectionately known as “Grandma” was educated in Richmond Public School System and attended the fourteen-room school house, the Buchanan School. She furthered her education by attending an on-line nursing school courses to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). This allowed her to do private duty nursing for the next 25 years. She loved working with people and taking care of them. Barbara was formally married to Borethie Richardson. She later married the late Lynwood Burrell. Their union was blessed with 8 wonderful children. She was employed as a nurse by Beth Sholom Senior Living Facility. She loved entertaining family and friends and welcomed any chance to cook one of her fabulous meals. Barbara whole-heartedly embraced, “fun, food and family. She had a big heart treating all the same. Above all else, Barbara had an unwavering love for her family, especially her grands. She will be missed by all who knew her. In her leisure, she enjoyed the latest trends to elaborately decorate her home. She was a fantastic decorator and made sure she displayed that look throughout her home. She never missed an opportunity to shop. Barbara enjoyed playing cards, sewing and crocheting which was a method of relaxation to her. She also loved listening to music. Her humble soul, bright smile, and joyous charm will remain in our hearts forever. So, we say, rest in peace, dear mother. You have done exceptionally well. You assisted many and asked for nothing in return. Your kind deeds demonstrated true Christian virtue. Sadly, our beloved gained her angel wings and departed this life on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at the young age of 76. Barbara leaves to honor her legacy: 4 sons, Jesse (Sharon) and Leon Richardson, Walter Jones and Olando Waddy; 3 daughters, Marian Simmons, Marvette Richardson and Alicia Richardson; grandchildren, Nico Wilson, Devonte, Terrell Henderson, Terrance Henderson, Demanda Cox, Kiesha James, Shereka Richardson, Antwoine Richardson, Latoya Thompson, Shereka Smith, Sheneka Hackney, Jerrod Crenshaw, Jamie Smith, Marquise Richardson, Jeffrey Richardson, William Richardson, Larelle Richardson, Rickiya Richardson, Marquita Walker, Zenobia Bridges, Jamal Walker, Lamar, Olando Waddy Jr. and D’shawn Waddy; great-grandchildren, Armani James, Heaven James, Kenya Archie, Arjnae, Waheed, Ralphie, LaKeith, Kenashia, Kynnadee, Elasha, Nyzaiah, Kiyan, Kiyshawn, Genesis, Gracey, Amere, Lauren, Larry, Kian Morris, Marquis, Jeffrey, Jaidyn Richardson, Giovanni Walker, Saint Hackney, DayQua Wilson, Laila Davis, Antinico Wilson and Kaizyn Wilson; 3 brothers, Ronald, Warren, Jerome and a sister, Lila; a host of other relatives and caring friends.
