Rev. Addison Boyd Smith Jr.
August 20, 1941 - February 26, 2022
Legacy of Love Reverend A.B. Smith, Jr., born August 20, 1941, to Addison Boyd Smith, Sr., and Hattie E. He departed this life on Saturday, February 26, 2022. He is preceded in death by Gwendolyn M. Goldwire Smith, wife of 42 years. He is survived by his two sons Addison (Debbie) and Gerald (Dorean), daughter Gwendolyn, grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren. He attended Essex High and later entered the United States Air Force, where he received an honorable discharge after 4 years of service. He received the call to proclaim the gospel at a young age and obtained his degrees in ministry from The Morehouse School of Religion and Virginia Union University. Over the years, he has dedicated his life to winning and training others to win souls for Christ. He thoroughly believed in the Great Commission, “Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.”- Matthew 18:19, 20 Two of his famous quotes that he lived by were “Only kind words spoken here” and “you shall not eat both the seed and the harvest.” His genuine display of care, humility, faithfulness, and kindness to others, even until the end, was a testament to how he wanted to live daily. He was always putting others first, providing a listening ear and sound wisdom, no matter what the situation may be. He will be greatly missed.
