Yvonne D. Johnson

Yvonne Denise Johnson, affectionately known as Denise, daughter of Alverta and John Ernest Johnson Jr. was born on March 26, 1952, in Baltimore, Maryland. She departed life on Monday, February 19, 2018, at University of Maryland Hospital. She was preceded in death by her father John Ernest Johnson Jr. and brother Rev. Michael Ernest Johnson. She was educated in Baltimore City Public Schools and attended Morgan State University. She was employed with the Social Security Administration and held multiple positions during her 31 years of service. She retired from the Social Security Administration in 2004 as a Security Specialist where she worked with the Office of Inspector General. Her early Christian education began at Cherry Hill Presbyterian Church as a child where she remained a member until she converted to the Catholic faith. Denise was an active member of St. Veronica’s Roman Catholic Church where she was formerly a member the Parish Council as well as a Lector. Denise made friends wherever she went and loved family gatherings. She made everyone feel welcomed in her company and adopted her husband’s and children’s friends as her own. Denise was as a true friend and very devoted wife and mother. She loved people and enjoyed socializing, entertaining and “games of chance”. She also enjoyed crafting, reading, sports, traveling, music and she loved to dance. Denise was known to many as a diva because she loved fashion and her fancy finger nails. She left a lasting impression on all who met her, to know her was to love her. When asked, one would describe Denise as a person who was very lively, witty, caring, genuine, creative, opinionated, loved to talk and had a wonderful sense of humor. She was a member of C.H.A.T. (Cheraton Hillview and Terra Firma) and BUILD (Baltimore United in Leadership Development) for many years. On November 20, 1971, Denise married Claude Johnson Sr. From their union they had two sons. She leaves to mourn: her husband Claude Johnson Sr.; her devoted mother, Alverta Johnson; two sons Claude Johnson Jr. and Mark Johnson; one daughter-in-law Veronica Johnson; five grandchildren Onyae Johnson, DeShaun Johnson, Bryce Johnson, Claude Johnson III and Quinn Johnson; one sister June Lomax (Frank); three brothers-in-law William Johnson (Yolanda), Bruce Johnson and Martin Johnson (Andrea); five sisters-in-law Victoria Hall (Michael), Linda Burgess, Joan Neal (Malvin), Phyllis Crowner and Barbara Jean Parker (Rolonzo); special cousin Henrietta Herbert (Kirson) and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
