Yolanda D. Simms-Nealy

YOLANDA D. SIMMS-NEALY was born September 12, 1952 in Baltimore, MD. She was the youngest of three daughters born to Gertrude D. Booth-Fields and Daniel Simms. She attended Northwestern High School and continued her education by enrolling in the Job Corps. Yolanda worked various jobs throughout her life including the Maryland Lottery Headquarters, Provident Hospital, Baltimore City School System, Donald’s Place as a bartender and the United States Postal Service that wore her out! She also supported organizations such as the Paralyzed Veterans of America and was a faithful donor to the Purple Heart and Saint Jude Children’s Hospital. Yolanda attended Christ Spiritual Baptist Temple Church and accepted Christ as her Savior under the anointing preaching of Pastor Marguerite Reddon. Yolanda was a faithful member until her health began to fail. She was always willing to help. She visited her pastor on many occasions and was willing to aid her in her every request. Yolanda, also known as “Shelly” and “Danette,” loved to cook and feed everybody. She was well known for various dishes, especially her potato salad, coleslaw and fried chicken amongst others. She would cook enough food to feed the whole neighborhood and always make sure you had food to go. Her personality was like no other, she was such a loving and caring person to many and always spoke what was on her mind! She was a second mom and mentor to so many and always offered great life advice. She always made sure she sent out those good night texts to everyone she loved. Yolanda enjoyed eating out at different restaurants, shopping, gathering with friends and family, crossword puzzles, Football Sundays watching her Baltimore Ravens, and making videos that were shared on social media with her youngest daughter and caretaker Danielle that she shared a very special bond with. She enjoyed watching her reality shows especially “Love and Hip Hop” that she talked about with her oldest daughter Charmaine. Yolanda will be truly missed by so many people. She had a smile that would brighten up any room and she didn’t play about her teeth. She would let you know in a heartbeat that “These are my REGULAR teeth”. She always kept breath mints and floss in her purse and didn’t hesitate to offer anyone a breath mint. Yolanda will be missed by so many people that adored her smile, sense of humor, loved her home cooked meals and tell it like it is personality. Yolanda D. Simms was preceded in death by her husband Jeremiah “Jerry” Nealy, mother Gertrude D. Booth-Fields, father Daniel Simms, grandson Andre J. Simms, and niece Tammy Ranson. She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Danielle Nealy and Charmaine Simms; sisters, Gloria Booth-Davis and Gladys Gunn-Muse; grandchildren, Andrea Evans and David Wheeler; cousin, Lucille Glee (who was very special to her); and a host of great-grandchildren, other family members and friends.
