Winslow Lee Thomas

Winslow Lee Thomas, son of the late Wilber Lee Sims and Elizabeth Thomas, was born on February 21, 1939 in Baltimore, Md. He was called from this earthly life to reward on Sunday, October 3, 2004. "Reese," as he is affectionately called, was raised by the late Pop Thomas and his Aunt Ethel Whitlock of Baltimore. As an only child, he had plenty of "Sisters and Brothers" that loved him and took care of him as a blood relative. Reese attended the public schools in Baltimore. He didn't complete high school because he left for the need to work at the age of thirteen. He had worked diligently at Woodcrest Country Club, Gulf Gas Station, Papa John Pizza and Baltimore Cab Company. On August 7, 1965, Reese married Beverly Venable of Baltimore, Md. From this union was born six children, Anthony Venable, Winslow, Kenneth, Doris, Robert, and youngest Jeannette. After 1973, Reese relocated to Camden, NJ where he worked and continued to raise his children, it was there in Camden that he met a special friend, Mae Lovett and helped her to raise her children and worked hard to make ends meet. He then joined Shalom Baptist Church in Camden, NJ. Reese was known to help everybody; he was known to give lodging to anybody who had the need. He loved detailing cars and was mechanically inclined. He was also a soul food lover. Reese moved back to his beloved hometown Baltimore and later joined the Pleasant Zion Baptist Church where the Rev. Dr. James Gray. Jr. served as Pastor. Reese faithfully served as an usher and was a very dependable driver of the church van. On the day that the Lord called Brother Reese to his final reward he had just dropped off some of the Saints, while in pain, and then drove himself to the hospital where hours later he passed away. Reese leaves to cherish his memory: his sons, Anthony, Winslow, Kenneth, Robert, James and sons from previous relationships; his daughters, Shirley, Norrine, Doris, Tonya, Sophia, Deborah and Jeannette; one son-in-law, Jeffrey Ferren of Camden, NJ; ten grandsons, Kenneth Jr., Sean, Rayshon, Jamere, Charlie, Kayshon, Michael, Joe-Joe, Lil' Rob and Aaron; eight granddaughters, Jada, Ja'Ondra, Toya, Laquanna, Heniya, Shawnae, Chelsea and Charrish; two sisters, Betty Washington and Sadie Folks; two aunts, Doretha Thomas and Frances Thomas; three uncles, Robert, Harvey, and Macon; two special friends, Mae Lovett and Pat Allen both of Camden, NJ; and a host of relatives and friends.
