Willie Mae Thomas

WILLIE MAE THOMAS was born on March 9, 1926 in Spartanburg, South Carolina to the late Luther Robinson and Lillie Phillips. She departed this life on June 21, 2009, after courageously battling lung cancer. She was educated in the South Carolina Public School System. During high school, she met Harden Thomas Sr. who later turned out to be the man of her dreams. Right after high school, Willie Mae worked at the Naval Shipyard in Washington, D.C.Shortly thereafter she returned to South Carolina. In December of 1945, she married Harden Thomas Sr. From that union, nine children were born; William (deceased), Patricia, Melvin (deceased), Gwendolyn, Sarah, Harden Jr., Frank, Sharon and Betty.Willie Mae was baptized at a church in South Carolina at an early age. She joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church in 1975. She was a faithful member until her illness kept her home. She served as a willing worker. She was on the Pastoral Care Team and faithfully attended intercessory prayer.Willie Mae was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to anyone she met. She expressed Godly love in the rearing of her children. She was an excellent cook and was known for her delicious apple pies and pound cakes, German chocolate cakes and the list goes on.Willie Mae Thomas was a quiet spirit who always took time to listen and offer advice or give assistance in anyway she could. If she couldn't do anything, she would always send up a prayer.Willie Mae Thomas leaves to cherish her memory: one brother, Johnny Davis; two sons, Harden Jr. and Frank Thomas; five daughters, Patricia Jackson, Gwendolyn Thomas-Noakes, Sarah Brown, Sharon Thomas, Betty Middlebooks; daughter-in-law, Donna Thomas; three sons-in-law, Leroy Noakes, Carroll Brown, and Anthony Middlebooks; twelve grandchildren, Tonia Jackson, Anthony Middlebrooks, Jr., Briana Pettaway, Lorraine Thomas, Kevin Thomas, Melvin Thomas Jr., Shaina Thomas, Morgan Thomas, Ryan Thomas, Sharon Brown-Williams, Carroll Brown Jr. and LaShauna Thomas; ten great-grandchildren, Brittany Martin, Tiffany Dacosta, Charles Williams III, Briana Williams, Anthony William, Kyra Williams, Kalani Williams, Alexis Thomas, Sharda Thomas; three devoted friend, Dorothy Craig, Marcia Trader and Annie Hill; and a host of other relatives and friends.
