Willie George Thomas,Jr.

None of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord; so then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. Romans 14:7-8 Willie George Thomas, Jr. was called to heaven’s pearly gates, November 15, 2012 to be with his Lord and Savior. He was born in Richmond, Virginia to the late Carrie Scott and Willie George Thomas on February 19, 1934. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Wanda Mosby and three sisters, Hazel Lee Williams, Julietta Morton and Eva Thomas. To his family and close friends Willie was known as, “Whip T”. He was educated in the Richmond public school system. In 1957, he graduated from Maggie L. Walker High School, where he was a member of the football team under Cannonball Cooper. He was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church. Willie enlisted into the United States Marines, where he served his country proudly for four years. After receiving an honorable discharge, he was employed by McGuire Veterans Hospital and retired after 40 years of dedicated service. Willie met the love of his life, Vivian M. Mosby and their union began December 10, 1978. During their union they reared three children together. Willie was a hard working family man who loved his wife and family. Later in life, his favorite pastime was watching the Washington Redskins games and sports in general. His favorite song was “One In A Million”, which he was known to sing on many occasion. Our beloved Willie will be missed by all. We know that he lives on in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved him as being a great teller of many stories. We were so fortunate to have had him in our lives and we feel empty without him. He will be truly missed. He leaves to cherish his precious memory devoted and loving wife of 35 years, Vivian M. Thomas; daughter, Bonita Mosby; son, John “Skeeter” Mosby; 3 grandchildren, Michael Mosby (Charity), Everett Mosby and Paris Mosby; 2 great-grandchildren, Jay and Tyree Mosby; mother-in-law, Daisy Whitehead; 2 brothers-in-law, Carlton “Mann” Whitehead (Maxine) and Michael Whitehead (Sharon); a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
