Willie Thigpen

Willie James Thigpen, Jr. affectionately known as “June” was born in Greensville, North Carolina on May 11, 1949, to the Late Willie and Vera Thigpen. Willie peacefully departed this life on August 8, 2023. June was raised in Greenville, North Carolina. In 1957 June’s family moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where he received his education in the Baltimore City Public School System. June met the love of his life, Trudy Ghee in 1970. They continued their love for each other until they were married on October 16, 1992 in Baltimore, Maryland. From this union three children were born, Tierrell, Kevin and Tia. June also fathered two other children Robyn and Melisha. June held numerous jobs including working at Coppers Company and Sparrows Point as a welder and a maintenance worker at Defense Logistics Agency. He also worked for many other employers and contractors. June’s joy was “home improvement” and working as a handy man. He provided home improvement services to many family members, friends and neighbors. He also provided church custodian services. June enjoyed life and loved spending time with family and friends. His family as well as his friends will miss his easy way of sharing conversations and good laughs. June, Trudy and the children hosted many family gatherings and cookouts at their home. He enjoyed cooking on the grill, while, making sure everyone around him feels welcome and was having fun. June often visited his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews and had a special bond with his three brothers, Milton, Bobby and Warren, all preceded him in death. June enjoyed listening to music, especially Tina Turner. June loved wearing his caps and his appearance was always very neat. June was well loved by everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed. One Daughter, Melisha and two grandchildren, William and Michael, all preceded him in death. Willie James Thigpen leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Trudy Thigpen; children, Robyn Hawkins, Tierrell and Kevin Thigpen, Tia Thigpen-Frazier; sisters, Vera Artis and Mary Boyd; a devoted brother-in-law Gregory Boyd; son-in-law’s, Tony and Troy; daughter-in-law, Shantel; grandchildren, Tierra, Shakia, Raishia, Kevin, Kenyelle, Taryn, Kennedy, and Troy,Jr.; six great grandchildren; sisters-in- law’s, Norma Allen, Karen Smith, Phyllis Watkins; Brother-in-law, Keith Ghee; many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. A devoted caregiver, Ms. Roxanne Adams (Roc).
