Willie Coven Jones

Willie Coven Jones departed this life on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at home. He was born on June 14, 1933 in Amelia, VA to the late Texanna Bland and William Ronnie Jones, both of whom preceded Willie in death. A brother, John Booker (Pattie) of Florida passed away April 28, 2018. He had two sisters (Mary Robinson and Eva Robinson) who passed away several years ago. Willie was married to Corliss Baugh-Jones, who lovingly called him Jones. He accepted Christ at an early age. He was educated in the Amelia Public Schools. For 30 years, he was a dedicated employee with the Defense Depot Richmond, VA (DDRV). Thereafter for 15 years, he was a part-time employee for Ukrops' and later Martins' grocery stores. Prior to these employments, he worked at Fort Pickett in Roanoke for approximately seven years. Willie had exceptional work ethics; he was not late for work one day nor did he believe in taking off unless he was ill or on vacation. He was a proud Army veteran who loved the United States of America. He was a member of First Baptist Church South Richmond where he served with the Doorkeepers' Ministry. He was a member of the Thursday Evening Whist Club where he served as vice president. Willie leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Corliss; three children - Willie Alonzo Jones (Nancy) of Maine, Janet Temple (Timothy) of Maryland, and Pamela Jones (Mac) of Amelia; three granddaughters: Angelica, Javon, and Jasmine; two grandsons, James and Matthew and one great-grandson, Jayce; four step-children--Candace Goodwin (Anthony) of Georgia, Mark Robinson (Kathie) of Dinwiddie, April Baugh and Larry Baugh both of Maryland; eight step grandchildren; Justin, Maria, Sarah, Julia, Anthony Jr., Carlie and Mark Jr. One brother, Samuel Jones (Edna) of Amelia; sister-in-law, Pattie Booker of Florida; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, one devoted chosen son George Douglas, Sr. (Patricia); and a host of other relatives and close friends; two life-long friends, Cora Rice (Joseph) and James Leon Jeter (Bettie) of Amelia. For ten months, Willie endured challenging health issues. Even through his pain, he remained the same kind and even-tempered person he always had been, a man who loved to smile and laugh.
