Willie Heath Sr.

Willie James Heath, Sr. . at age 79, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at Northwest Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He was born on March 24 1939 to the late Thomas and Rosa Bell Heath in Winnsboro, South Carolina. During the Great Migration, the Heath family relocated to Baltimore, Maryland when Willie was a young child. Willie was affectionately known as “Monk” by family and friends. He received Christ at a young age at New Shiloh Baptist Church in Turners Station, Maryland. He was educated in the Baltimore County School System; Fleming Elementary School and Sollers Point High School. Professionally; he worked as a construction worker and as a steelworker at Raymond Metals from which he retired. In 1961, Monk married Evelyn Heath Scruggs and from that union are three children , Cynthia Dianne, Willie 'Junie' and Jacquetta Renee'. Monk subsequently married Brenda Heath who preceded him in death. Willie was am extremely charismatic and warmhearted man with a big heart and even bigger smile. He lived life to the fullest through the simple pleasures including fishing, crabbing, good conversation, plenty of jokes, hearty laughs, and spending valuable time with family and friends. Strangers quickly became his friends . He loved sports and was a softball coach. He enjoyed singing and playing his guitar; and taught his son, Junie who still plays guitar today! Whenever you saw Monk you would see his brothers John and Tom; they were known as the “Heath Brothers” and were always dressed to impress! From childhood, Sonny, Charles and James were Monk's closest cousins and best buddies. Monk lived a good life! Preceding Willie in death are both parents,Thomas and Rosa Bell; a son, Gregory Heath; two brothers, Leroy “Sonny” and David Heath; and a sister Betty Johnson (Joseph). Willie is survived by his loving children: Cynthia Dianne Heath, Willie James Heath, Jr.., Jacquetta Renee' Hayes (Eric); Marlon Wallace, and Kenisha Sanders; his stepson , Christopher McLean; his loving brothers and sisters: Rosa Lee Smith (Junius), Thomas Heath, Jr. (Roxanne), John “Bay” Heath (late Quincey), Mattie Dorthy “Dot” Harris (John), Lula B. Harris (Louis), and Yvonne Melvin; his grandchildren: Brandon Heath (Shantelle), Shavon Hill (Bryant), Alexis Heath, Erica Hayes, Alexandra Heath, Marlon Wallace, Jr., Leah Kaime, Da'Shawn Adams, Da'Shawna Adams, Brandon Adamn, and Brandy Roberts; his great granchildren: Amiyah Heath and Bryant” BJ” Hill , Jr., his nieces, nephews, aunts,uncles, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends. Willie “Monk” Heath as loved and will be truly missed.
