Willie Edward Harris

Willie was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System and graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in 1947. He spent thirty-four years with the United States Post Office, before retiring in December 1985. He went on to work several years for the Association of Retired People (AARP) and spent many years as a licensed cab driver in Washington, D.C.In May 1951, Willie was united in marriage to the late Lila "Delores" Harris. From this union, they were blessed with four lovely children, Mark, Renee, Eric and Alan. The marriage ended in divorce, but did not diminish the love shared for the family; they raised their children well. Willie truly missed his brother and sisters who preceded him, Herbert, Dorothy and Daisy.Willie gave his life to Jesus and was a long-time member of the Fountain Baptist Church. He served as a member of the Church-wide Sick Committee and was a dedicated Trustee Emeritus. He loved the Fountain Baptist Church family and through his illness, their prayers, visits, cards, gifts, phone calls, and love were a source of great joy to him.Willie had a zest for life and made friends everywhere he went. His sense of humor shined through as he became confined to a wheelchair. He smiled and found new friends among the nurses, staff, and residents at Fairland Nursing and Rehab in Silver Spring, Md. Last February, he was voted as "King of Valentine's Day."Willie became an avid HO train collector, after receiving a set as a treasured gift from his sister Daisy. He enjoyed music and recently had been listening to oldies but goodies from Sarah Vaughn, the Orioles, Dionne Warwick, and Dinah Washington. One of Willie's favorite songs was "One in a Million," by Larry Graham. That could be said about him.Willie leaves to cherish his memory: four loving children; beloved grandchildren, Michael, Yvonne, Dominic, Aisha, and Andre; great-granddaughter, Savannah; daughter-in-law, Alicia Renee; son-in-law, Ronald Harris; niece, Jeanette Paige; great-niece, Deborah Harris; nephew, Gregory Thorpe; cherished in-laws, Alexander Franklin and Helena Goodwin; and a host of beloved cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.
