William Quincey Bland

William Quincy Bland, Jr., son of William Bland, Sr. and Leathy Christine Royston Bland, was born on August 6, 1926 in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life on June 22, 2004.Mr. Bland was educated in the Baltimore City School Systems. After completing high school, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he dutifully fought in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1947. His marriage to Willia Mae Buck, produced two children, Andrea Christine and Jefrey Craig, and two stepchildren, Carol Diane and Harold. He became a lifelong employee of Eastern Stainless Steel, where he retired in 1988.Friends always looked for one liners from “Bill” as he kept people laughing and amused. Recently, he taught himself how to play the harmonica and was asked by several churches to display his talent at their special programs. He was known for his creative and artful abilities and received a scholarship to the Maryland institute of Art, where he proudly attended in 2002.At age 55 years old, he joined the “Harbor City Striders,” a marathon running organization, where he won numerous races, including three 26 miles races, in his age division. Very active in sports, Mr. Bland enjoyed serving on the bowling league at Woodlawn Fair Lanes. Whatever he touched and had and interest in, “Bill” Bland mastered. As an active member of Providence Baptist Church, he served in the E.W. White Silver Leaf Club, the Thursday Brunch Committee, the Providence Bowling League and attended Sunday school and Saturday Bible School. He helped where he could and everyone was very fond of him.William Bland, Jr. leaves to cherish his memory; his devoted daughter, Andrea Bland-Travis; granddaughters, Mona Hanson, Willia Noel Montague, and Mari Travis; his sister, Gwendolyn Patillo; his brothers, Anderson Ward and Louis Bland; nieces, Renee Perry, Judith Chase, Pat Ward, and other nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles; stepchildren, Carol Mitchner Brown and Harold Mitchner; goddaughter, Kimberly Jones; and very special friends, “NeNe” Johnson, Joe Brown and Willia Brown.Submitted With Love, The Family
