William C. Hicklin Jr.

WILLIAM C. HICKLIN JR., son of the late William C. Hicklin Sr. and Mary Francis Hicklin, was born on May 26, 1953 in Chester, South Carolina. He departed this life suddenly on June 3, 2013. He received his education at Baltimore City College High School in Baltimore, Maryland from where he graduated in 1972. After graduating from high school, he became an apprentice plumber with Auld Plumbing Company. This would become the beginning of his lifelong career and passion. He became a member of Holy Trinity Church of God In Christ at the young age of eight, under the leadership of Dr. Arthur R. Shields and he became the church’s first official usher. He married Sandra Gibson on December 6, 1975, and out of this union two children were born, William and Ellisa. Later in life he was blessed with another son named Eric, who preceded him in death. William made numerous friends wherever he went and was willing to lend a hand wherever he was needed, whether it was to a small child in the neighborhood or an elderly person who needed him to hang a window blind or repair a leaky faucet. He always had a smile and was known throughout Baltimore for his willingness to help whenever he could. When called upon, many times his response would be, “Let me get my tools and let me see what I can do.” William affectionately known as “Tootie,” “Mr. Will” or “Peoples,” shall be truly missed by all that knew him. He was the type of person who would eagerly converse with everyone. He loved to reminisce about old times and share a meal with you. Once you met him and laughed and talked with him, you felt as though you had known him for years. He leaves to cherish his memory: his mother, Mrs. Mary F. Hicklin; one son, William C. Hicklin III; and one daughter, Ellisa C. Harty; one sister, Mary E. Hicklin Hurley; one brother, Michael W. Hicklin; six grandsons and one granddaughter; one brother-in-law, Anthony E. Hurley and Velinda Cooke; a life-long friend and companion and her children; as well as nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins and a host of other relaves and friends.
