Willa Mae Cain

For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” II Corinthians 5:4On August 23, 2004 after a brief illness, God called our loved one home. Willa Mae Cain was born February 9, 1920 in Tillery, North Carolina to the late Henry and Annie Wynn. Her older sister Pattie Odell Dorsey preceded her in death.Willa Mae Cain, affectionately known as “Bugg,” “Bill,” “Mother,” Momma,” and “Granny,” was a phenomenal woman, who loved the Lord. Not only was she kind, loving and caring. And most of all she enjoyed living her life to the fullest.Willa Mae enjoyed vacationing in the Bahamas from 1968 through 1978 with her club members of the LES JOLLIE FEMMES SOCIAL CLUB. In addition to being Bahama Mama her second love was going to Atlantic City, Dover Downs or any other casino. Donald Trump was her guy (smile). Willa Mae also enjoyed hosting card games, and boy was she lucky!Aside from her fun Willa Mae was always concerned about the well being of others. It was evident in the way she lived her life. Although she was educated in the Baltimore City Public School system, she did not complete her studies until 1986 when her late husband John N. Cain crossed over to eternal life. After many years as a wife, mother and homemaker Willa Mae went on to obtain her G.E.D. and a certificate in Nutrition from the Community College of Baltimore, which led her to her new career as Site Manager of the Eating Together Program. At age seventy, she successfully completed the course requirements for Methods of Health for Senior Staff with a 3.0 GPA. Wow!Willa Mae was also awarded a prestigious Certification of Merit from the City of Baltimore from the Honorable Mayor Kurt L. Schmoke and after ten years of continuous service she was never tardy or absent. In addition, Willa Mae was awarded the Baltimore City Health Department Commissioner’s Commendation for her contribution to the health and well being of the citizens of Baltimore. Now isn’t that something.Willa Mae took great pride in her home. She loved to cook, clean, and tend to her garden. Her family was her first priority from her children to her great-great grandchildren. Not only did she raise her children; she went on to raise her grandchildren never leaving them to an outside babysitter.Willa Mae went from labor to reward and leaves to cherish her memory: five daughters, Gloria Evans, Carolyn McDonald, Jeanne Hawkins, Joan Cain, and Bettye, Blaize; one son, Roland Langley; five sons-in-law, Russell Evans, Carl McDonald, James Hawkins, Billy Brown, and Amos Goodlow (one preceded her in death, Reynold Blaize); one daughter-in-law, Sally Ghee; seventeen grandchildren, Karen, William, Sharon, Tonya, Adrienne, Ronald, Timothy, Andre’, Jason, Royal, Malcolm, Jeannelle, John, Terrence, and Dawnita (three grandchildren preceded her in death, Victor, Bernadette, and Charlie); twenty-five great-grandchildren (one greatpreceded her in death), Leslie; eleven great-great grandchildren; two nephews, James and Glenn Dorsey; one niece, Edith Hinton; a loving Goddaughter, MiMi Berry of Virginia; one surviving club member and loving Godmother, Dorothy Butler; extended family on Northgate Road; a lifetime devoted friends, Earle Bollin (her pal)’ and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
