Wilbur K. Jones

Wilbur K. Jones, son of the late Alvin and Gladys Jones, he was born on May 23, 1933 in Easton, Maryland. He departed this life on March 8, 2008 after a short illness.He was baptized a Christian at Asbury African Methodist Church in Easton, Maryland at a young age. Wilbur, along with the rest of the family, converted to Catholicism in 1948.Wilbur was educated in Parochial and Baltimore City Public Schools. He became employed by Korn’s Furniture Store in Baltimore, Maryland as an upholsterer. At the age of 19, he was inducted in the United States Army and served from 1953-1954. After being honorably discharged, he worked as a florist apprentice, brick and stone mason, plumber, roofer, cook, and eventually started his own home improvement business. He maintained hid business until his illness. There was no job too large or small. His legacy will live on through his many completed projects and satisfied customers.He married the former Barbara Dowry and had three stepchildren from this union, Donald, Janell and Angie. This marriage ended in divorce after several years.Wilbur loved to hear the old-time gospel songs on Sunday mornings and he didn’t mind sharing them by turning the volume up so all could hear. He enjoyed watching baseball and football games on television and helped manage the game from his easy chair. Another favorite pastime was cooking and he was a master chef.He would speak his mind but made friends everywhere he went. He lived life to the fullest until his illness incapacitated him. He loved children and treated them all as if they were his own. He was the father or uncle figure that many did not have. If they needed something, Wilbur made certain they had it, even if he had to do without.He was a charter third degree member of the Mother Mary Elizabeth Lange Council and a fourth degree member of the Charles Carroll of Carroilton Assembly of the Knights of Columbia.He leaves to mourn; a devoted daughter, Sharron Jones-Elmore, daughterJeanie Jones; one son, Kenneth Jones; two step-daughters, Janelle and Angie Dowry; one step-son, Donald Dowry, one son-in-law, Dameun Elmore; two granddaughters, Shaquandra White and I’yana Elmore, seven sisters, Mrs. Dorothy McCutheon, Mrs. Virginia Fisher, Ms. Shirley Jones, Mrs. Gloria Gibson, Mrs. Patricia Heidelberg, Ms. Vincentia Jones and Ms. Ingrid Jones, seven brothers, Roosevelt Jones, Leon Jones, Vernon Jones, Sr.; nieces, nephews, one special friend, Doris Loving; and a host of other relatives and friends.
