Wilbert Curtis Lyons

Wilbert C. Lyons, Sr., son of the late Walter Powell land Emma Lyons, was born on December 29, 1934 in Whitakers, North Carolina. He departed this life on Friday, August 24, 2007 after a short illness at the Joseph Richey Hospice Hospital. He received his education in Whitakers, North Carolina. He later moved to Norfolk, Virginia, where he resided for many years, and worked as a Porter at Norfolk General Hospital.While living in Norfolk, Wilbert united in holy matrimony with Delores a. Tabron and out of that union six children were born. In 1957, Wilbert moved his family to Baltimore, Maryland. He was a longtime member of Saint Johns Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon under the leadership of the late Reverend Davis.He found employment with the well-renowned Andre’s Beauty Salon, and was a faithful employee for many years until he found his “niche: in the Baltimore City Public school System, where he served as a Janitor until he retired after 30 years of service.Wilbert loved sports, but his passion was baseball. He was a long-a-time member of one of West Baltimore’s Hack Clubs. During his retirement, he spent his latter days with others “hacking” in the Reisterstown Plaza Shopping Center. If you needed to see him for any reason, all you had to do was go to the Plaza, and there he could be found, sitting outside of the market. He will be truly missed by his friends.He was preceded in death by his sister Betty (Bonnie) Harris. Loving memories of Wilbert will be cherished by is 7 children, Larry Bishop (Deloris), Enfield, NC; Wilbert C. Lyons, Jr. (Linda), Angela Billups, Baltimore, MD; Reverend, Marvin Lyons (Liz), Lancaster, PA; Ruth Lyons, Christina Lyons, and Anthony Lyons, Norfolk, VA; two brothers, Bobby Lyons, Brooklyn, NY and Marion Lyons, Whitakers, NC; five sisters, Peggy Weekes, Upper Marlboro, MD Jennie Williams, and Etta Lyons, Rocky Mountain, NC: one brother –in-law, Neville Weekes; one sister-in-law; Ann Lyons and one step-sister, Ruth Amlet (Willie); eighteen grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren; a devoted life partner, Jackie Richers; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
