Walter Jones, Jr

WALTER JONES JR., loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather, age 79, was called home to be with the Lord on November 12, 2013. He was the son of the late Walter Jones Sr. and Ollie Mae Jones of Rockwood, Tennessee. He attended Campbell High School in Rockwood, Tennessee. Succeeding graduation, he served in the U.S. Army. He held many jobs, but after dedicating his life to working in the Baltimore City Public School System, he retired as a Roofing Inspector. On July 6, 1955, he married the late Cleo V. Jones. Out of this union, eight children were born: Felice, Cynthia, Carlton, Terence, Falena, Cernoria, Kevin, and Saritha. He was a devoted member of Pleasant Zion Baptist Church since November 2, 2003. He enjoyed playing Scrabble with his family on Saturdays. He also enjoyed watching football with his son on Sundays. His hobbies were traveling with his wife, watching and recording movies, collecting caps, and making home videos. In 1978, he published his first book of poems called the “What’s Happening Poems”. Walter Jones was a very wise and intelligent man. He could share many stories about his past, present, and maybe even predict the future. He had a great sense of humor and awesome sense of style. Although his late wife was the foundation of the family, he was the lead. He will truly be missed. Walter was preceded in death by: his father, Walter Jones Sr.; and mother Ollie Mae Jones; his sons, Terence Jones and Kevin Jones; his daughters, Felice Jones and Cernoria Buckner; one son-in-law, Michael Robinson; his brothers, Carl Jones, Jack Jones, and William Jones; and his sister, Geraldine Blount. Walter leaves to cherish his memory: one son, Carlton Jones; three daughters, Cynthia Johnson (son-in-law Charles), Falena Robinson and Saritha Winstead (son-in-law James); fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Philip Jones of Baltimore, MD and Larry Jones (wife Brenda) of Athens, TN; two sisters; Bessie Carney of Rockwood, TN and Rita Lawson (husband Winton) of Dayton, TN; cousins, Bobby, Carolyn and Suzette; sisters-in-law, Eunice Rankins of Columbus, OH, Shirley Oggs (husband James) of Spring City, TN; brothers-in-law, Booker T. Gillespie (wife Carol) of Nashville, TN, Alvas C. Gillespie (wife Pearlie), Curtis L. Gillespie of Dallas, TX, William Gillespie (wife Kimberly) of Spring City, TN; and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
