Walter B. Jenkins Jr.

Walter Batty Jenkins, Jr., son of the late Eleanor and Walter Jenkins, Sr., was born on July 23, 1940 in Towson, Maryland. After a long and courageous struggle, Walter succumbed to rest on Monday, March 7, 2016 at 12:05 a.m. at Gilchrist Hospice Center. He was nurtured and raised in the Mount Olive Baptist Church. He attended Baltimore County and Baltimore City Public Schools. He attended Samuel Gompther #298, studying the trade of carpentry. Walter worked for the Baltimore City Department of Public Works for over 30 years and he so eloquently referred to himself as being a Sanitation Engineer. He had an exceptionally excellent work ethic. He believed that any and every job should be done with dignity and class. After retiring from DPW, Bub worked at Giant Food Store as a customer service agent rendering help and care to many and always left you smiling. Walter was married to the late Betty Jean Covington and out of that union three children were born, two daughters and one son. He was the oldest son and never failed to let us know that he was and for us to respect him for that. That was Bub. Part of his nickname he was given as a child. Bubble Tea is the elongated version of Bub. As a teenager, Bub was an avid listener of country and western music. Long before jeans (dungarees) were fashionable, he wore them along with his cowboy hat and boots, and was known as the original black cowboy. Some of his favorite entertainers were Johnny Cash, Charlie Pride, Eddy Arnold and many, many more. Wrestling was another great love of his life but driving was the best love of his life. It was well known that he could drive as fast backwards as many of us could go forward. We sometimes refer to him as the comedian who had not quite made it but he was funny anyway. He leaves to celebrate his life, four devoted children, Arnetta Robinson, Walter D. Jenkins Jr. (Delores), Arnita Jenkins-Thomas (Leanard) and Kim Falcon (Darryl); five siblings, Ruth Quiones (Garcia), William A. Jenkins (late Helen), Lola Jenkins Reid (Ras Marcus), Gregory P. Jenkins and Helease P. Jenkins. Joining the celebration of life are his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins; a very special and devoted companion, Eartha Weeks: and a hostt of other relatives and friends.
