Walter H. Maddox

On August 25, 2002, Walter Howard Maddox Sr. quietly departed this life after a long illness. Walter was born on August 11, 1919. He was the beloved son of the late Samuel and Katie Maddox. He was brought up in the Methodist Faith at a Samuel Wesley United Methodist Church; he later joined the New Life United Methodist Church in 1998. Walter was also a loyal member of the United Methodist Men. He was educated at the Princess Anne MD public school. After leaving school he enlisted into the United States Army on August 1, 1942, were he served in New Guinea for one year. He also went into the Philippine for one year. During his tour of duty, he received the Good Conduct Metal, American Theater Ribbon, Pacific Theater Ribbon and United of Award World II Victory Ribbon. After leaving the Army on January 3, 1946, he started working at Private Family Services, where he met and shortly thereafter married Georgia Mae Smith. From this 48-year union a son and two daughters were born. After leaving Private Family Services, he applied and was hired at the MTA, where he worked for 33 years until his retirement on June 1, 1983. He leaves to cherish his fond memories: one son, Walter H. Maddox Jr., his two daughters; Deborah D. Jackson and Barbara E. Boyd; one daughter-in-law, Jenny K. Maddox and two sons-in-law, Donald Jackson Sr. and William Boyd; seven grandchildren, Jessica Jackson, Donald Jackson Jr., Jana’y Jackson, Justin Maddox, Marcus Maddox, Nicole Dorsey and NcQuell Dorsey; six sisters-in-laws, Juanita Limon, Mary Booze, Maudelle Wilson and Ellen Smith, Carolyn Smith, Shirley Bond; two brothers-in-law, Henry Smith and Thomas Smith, three nieces, Myrtle Conyer, Annabelle Smith and Viola Pender; two nephews, Thomas Feagan and Herbert Cottman and a host of neices, nephews, family and friends. Walter was a loving and caring husband. A warm and dedicated father and an indulging grandfather. Walter was a faithful friend with a wonderful sense of humor. He never met a person he didn’t like which cumulated his life, which explains his favorite saying, “Life doesn’t get any better than this.
