Walter "Bud" D. Miles

Walter Davie Miles, also known to many as “Bud”, was born on May 31, 1957 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. God in His almighty power called him home for eternal rest on Monday September 9, 2024. Walter grew up in the small town of Arrington, Virginia with his mom, dad and 5 brothers and sisters. He graduated from Nelson County High School in 1975 and later attended Ferrum College. It was there he met his wife of 40 years, Candace. College is where he actually got the nickname “Bud”, we’ll let you guess why. After college they moved to Richmond, VA where they had their daughter, Ariana and son, Jorman. Bud’s love for driving and helping others led him to his thirty plus years in transportation. His career started at Circuit City, where he began as a delivery driver and later a supervisor. The latter part of his career was spent transporting or dispatching veterans at the McGuire Hospital. As a driver he would personally try to get to know each of his passengers. He loved sweets and would always ensure his van had candy on board. He became affectionately called “the candy man”. He was considered by some as a human GPS because he was able to give directions to anywhere. Bud loved to make others smile. He was universally beloved for his generous nature and quirky sense of humor. He had a passion for food, music and football, especially as a lifetime Pittsburgh Steeler fan. He would love to watch cooking shows and try different recipes. He even continued to sell his pound cakes and pies all while battling cancer. If you were lucky enough to have spent time with him, you knew Walter loved the Lord, and the Lord’s music. In his youth, he sang in the choir at New Mount Baptist Church in Arrington. Later in life as a member of St. James Baptist church in Varina, Virginia, he was a member of the men’s choir. His passion and love for music was very important to him. Every morning, he would send out music and a message to over 80 friends and family. And when we say morning, we are talking 5am or early. It was one of the last things he did. We find comfort in knowing that he is now at peace and resting in the arms of our Lord and Savior. Sleep on loved one and take your well-deserved rest. We will always carry the memories of you close within our hearts. He was proceeded in death by his parents Robert Sherwood Miles and Mildred Elizabeth Miles, and his brother Robert Boyd Miles. Walter leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife Candace C. Miles, and two loving children, daughter Ariana Patrice Miles of Richmond, Va, and son Jorman D. Miles of Richmond, VA., Granddaughter Zora Miles-Saunders; Sisters, Sadie Simmons of Arrington, VA; Mary Miles Jones of Clementon, NJ; Lynette Miles of Arrington, VA; brother Michael B. Miles (Eva Miles) of Arrington, VA.
