Wallace H. Ringgold

I, Wallace Hugh Ringgold, the beloved son of the late George Ringgold and Peggy Oliver, was born on September 30, 1924 in Baltimore, Maryland. As it was approaching dusk, on the afternoon of Monday, December 29, 2003, I stepped from life into eternity at the Gilchrist Hospice Center, in Towson, Maryland.“Wally” as I was so fondly known, was the youngest of seven children. I spent my early years in Catonsville and attended Baltimore City Public Schools. I learned at an early age how to be the center of attention with my humorous and friendly demeanor.In 1942, I served in the United states Marines. Four years later, after being honorably discharged, I relocated to New York and in 1946; I met and married Sherrie Smith. In 1948, we had my first son Anthony Wallace Ringgold.While working as a tax accountant, I met my “Bride,” Lois Adele Simms. We were wed on December 1967. We started out with two sons Lowall (1968-1999) and Wallace Jr. (1970-1970). I returned to Baltimore City to become and entrepreneur and opened “Wally’s Arundel” in the Greater Park Heights Community. Lois followed me here in 1973; we then gave birth to our only daughter, Aimee. Our union of love continued until my journey on earth was complete.Once I was done with being an entrepreneur, I entered into the service industry. I worked at the Congressional Dining Room on Capital Hill in Washington D.C., where I was a master at my profession. I enjoyed entertaining and collecting historical memorabilia. After 15 years of service, I retired to enjoy spending time with my family and friends.I was a very humorous, light-hearted and playful husband, father and friend. I enjoyed people and people gravitated towards me. I could use words in a way that would lift spirits immediately. I loved to listen and share my jazz and blues musical collection. I thought of myself as a photographer and was always taking pictures at every occasion. In all photos you can find me in the front with by big, bright smile.I leave to cherish and celebrate my life: a wife, Lois; a daughter, Aimee; a son, Anthony; two sisters, Mildred Timberlake and Ruth Myers; one brother, Roscoe; five grandchildren, Adia, Sean, Lammon, Brandon and Whitney; one mother-in-law, Lillie Mae Simms-Taylor; three sisters-in-law, Dr. Jan Puig, Clarice Frierson, and Deborah Williams; four brothers-in-law, James Charles Simms Jr., Dr. Ange Puig and Randy Williams, a host of other relatives and friends.Lovingly Submitted,Wally Ringgold
