Vivian Tobias Edward

On January 3, 1920, Vivian Tobias was born to the late Henry and Minnie Tobias in Little Mountain, South Carolina. She was the third child of seven children. Vivian’s admiration and passion for plants, was nurtured by “Daddy” and her love for nurturing people was inherited from “Mama.”After successfully graduating from high school, Vivian studied the Nursing profession in South Carolina before venturing to Baltimore, Maryland in the 1940’s. On of her professional places of employment was Glenn L. Martin where she built airplane engines for and estimated fifteen years. Then she was employed with Westinghouse as a Manufacturer Specialist, then later becoming an electrical technician and retired after working for twenty-five years. She also taught electrical courses at Poly High School for Boys on North Ave in Baltimore.On April 30, 11956 she married the love of her life, James L. Edwards from Dothan, Alabama. James and Vivian were a couple who successfully shared joys, challenges, triumphs, vacations, good times family and friends, especially love for forty-eight years.Vivian embraced Mary Mallory as her adoptive daughter at Glenn L. Martin. Through this relationship it was agreed that Vivian and James would become the loving godparents of Mary’s first born child, Charlene Mallory upon birth. Vivian truly loved cherished and reared Charlene as her very own child. Charnise, “Grandmama’s Doll Baby,” was loved and adored just the same.Vivian was a “social butterfly” in which she was the member of various social groups. Various bowling leagues, many card clubs, eating together programs, Dothan Alabama Alumni Club and the best hostess for numerous good times in her home.On March 18, 2004 with her loving husband and grateful daughter at the side, Vivian fell asleep into a peaceful rest. Now she awaits the call of a resurrection of life for God’s promise of a better life in a new world forever. (II Peter 3:13).Her life will be forever treasured by her loving and devoted husband, Mr. James. Edwards; appreciative and loving daughter, Mrs. Charlene Jefferson; her adopted children, Richard Mallory, his wife Karen and their children, Ashley and Richard (Ricky), Mr. Frank McIntyre and wife Ester, Mr. Marvin Mason, Mr. Charlie Johnson, and Mrs. Jacqueline Hart and her son, Douglas James Hunter; caring and sensitive granddaughter, Miss Charnise Jefferson; surviving sisters, Mrs. Mildred Davis of Columbia, South Carolina, Mrs. Edith Garrett of Baltimore, Maryland and adopted sisters, Mrs. Mildred Gittings and Mrs. Lavenia James; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Beatrice Brown of Columbus, Georgia; son-in-law, Mr. Harvey Jefferson; first cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Boyd of Charlotte, North Carolina; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
