Vivian L. Evans

On Sunday morning, November 16, 2014, our beloved Vivian Lee Evans entered eternal rest with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ Vivian was born March 11, 1943 in Baltimore City, the eldest daughter of the late Clarence Allen and Ida Rebecca Grant. She was one of six siblings. Vivian was reared in Baltimore and educated in the Baltimore Public School System having graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in 1961. She continued her education briefly at the Strayer Business School. She was later employed with the Lane Bryant Clothing Store. Sometime later she became employed with the Enoch Pratt Library where she remained employed until her retirement on January 1, 2009. She worked for many years at the main branch and spent her last years of employment at the Light Street location. , Vivian's walk with Christ started with her baptism in 1943 at Centennial Methodist Church. As a child she attended Sunday school at St. Philip's Lutheran Church where she received formal Christian training and subsequently affirmed her baptism at the age of 13 years old. She remained an active confirmed member of st. Philip's Lutheran Church along with her family. In 1971 Vivian decided to join the New Psalmist Baptist under the leadership of Rev F.C Adkins. She has remained a faithful and dedicated member until God's calling. Vivian diligently and faithfully served as a member of the Women's Senior Usher Board and the Catering Ministry. In addition, she regularly participated with the Wednesday Morning Bible Study and the Day Away Ministry. She also sang with the chorus for special events. ., Vivian was a devoted and dedicated wife, sister, aunt, cousin and friend to all. When not involved with church activities, she spent most of her time with Willie. The two of them traveled a great deal and loved to take cruises with their friends. Not having children of her own, her nieces and nephews played a special part in her life and she was a source of love, counsel and support for them. During her spare time, Vivian gave many hours of volunteer service at the Medstar Good Samaritan Hospital. J' Vivian took pride in her family and their importance. She enjoyed hosting gatherings for her family and friends on holidays and other special occasions. She was a major nucleus in continuing the annual family reunion and was determined that in an annual event. Vivian's favorite pastime was line dancing with the Oliver Senior Center and other events. Her strong will and determination as well as her loving spirit will be missed by all. In the hope of the resurrection,she leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved husband, Willie Evans, two sisters, Rosalyn Sele and Brenda Grant; three brothers, Donald A. Grant (Lynette) of Salisbury, North Carolina, Ralph J. Grant (Dorothy) of Lexington, North Carolina, and Gerry Grant; one step-daughter, Mattie Jones of Washington, D.C.;one uncle, Leonard Stevenson of New York City; six nieces, Victoria Thaniel (Gary), Bernice Garrison, Cheryl Grant- Johnson, Kelly Grant, Danielle Grant and Genesis Grant; two nephews, Maurice Grant(Robin) and Ralphael Grant, other great nieces and great nephews, two
