Virgnia H. Gibson

Virginia H. Gibson, daughter of the late Charles Wilmus Harcum and Orlean Scott Harcum. was born August 29, 1928 in North Thumberland County, Virginia. She departed this life on February 14, 2017 peacefully. Ginger or Gin, as she was affectionately known, was an only daughter with five brothers: Lincoln, Harold, Melvin, Vern and Albert, all whom preceded her in death. She received her education in Virginia and graduated in 1945 from high school, Virginia spent her summers vacations in Baltimore, Maryland with her paternal aunts. After graduating from high school, she decided to make Baltimore, Maryland her home. At some pint during her stay in Baltimore, Maryland, she met and married the late Remus Edward Gibson, Jr. From this union four children were born, Ronald (preceded) her in death), Rena, (who preceded her in death), Corliss and Carolyn. Virginia always held and interest in caring for the sick. She went on to eplore her skill in nursing and attended nursing school. She received a Diploma in Home Nursing from Douglass Evening school. Later, she went to resident training as Provident Hospital and Crownsville State Hospital. She attended college and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Nursing. She went on to obtain certification as a LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) which paved the way for her to acquire the skill of a Registered Nurse. Throughout her career as a Nurse, Virginia worked as a personal Private Duty Nurse, a special care Nurse in facilities for substance abuse and often cared for the elderly. Often times in her communities, be it downtown or uptown, she was known as the Nurse in the neighborhood. She was called on favorably to provide aid for many household accidents. Although some may not have even known her name, they knew a Nurse in the area, and she should be retrieved when a troubling accident occurred. She was always there to lend a hand. Virginia was a very active and social individual involving herself in church and social clubs. She enjoyed socializing and interacting with people and was quite outspoken, and often said what was on her mind. Everyone knew that. She joined the Virginia Progressive Church Club, a club that originated in Virginia, and fondly called her "down home" to her and others who grew up with her. She has been a standing member of that club for over fifty years. She was active in a number of church clubs as she looked for the best church home to settle in which included Cornerstone, Shiloh, and Gillis Memorial where she ended up choosing Gillis Memorial as he church home. She worked as a nurse in the Nurses Ministry for many years. Virginia enjoyed her job as a Nurse, and took pride in her accomplishments. She spent time with children, and loved family trips, cookouts, entertaining, and also spent time with friends. She loved to play cards, a trait she passed on to Rena and Ronald. As young adults the three of them would have card parties late into the night. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her. Virginia has been convalescing in the care of Keswick Multi- Care Center since 2009. She spent her time on various floors and units and had gotten to know a number of the employees and staff. Many knew Mrs. Gibson, mostly due to her admirable ways. She leaves to mourn, two daughter, Corliss Middleton and Carolyn Is sac, two son-in-laws, Edward Middleton and Jeffery Isaac Sr., daughter -inlaw, Hope Smith, nine grandchildren, Shaun, Corey, Terri, Cherise, Dorian, Shanette, Jeffrey Jr. and Torey (both preceded her in death), Quantia, twenty-four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends
