Virginia M. Williams

Virginia M. Williams, daughter of the late Mable Milburn Stokes, was born on January 9, 1927. On Thursday, March 22, 2018 she extended her hands toward the heavens as the angels descended to take her to her new home. During her transition, she was surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In 1943, she met the love of her life, Willis C. Williams. On December 10, 2017, the couple celebrated 75 years of marriage. Virginia was a quiet soul who took pride in sharing and caring for others. After raising seven children and caring for many of the neighborhood children, she decided to go to school to earn her degree as an LPN. Subsequently she became employed at Kimbrough Army Hospital, Fort Meade, Maryland where she worked until her retirement. After retirement, she continued caring for many of her grandchildren. Her high standards and advice was quite meaningful in ensuring the success of the children she cared for and cared about. Virginia believed that everyone should take pride in who they were and how one presented themselves to the public was extremely important to her. Also known as the “Avon Lady” on her block, she strived to uplift others with bringing out their own beauty. She was quite known as the “Card Lady.” No matter what the occasion, if she knew about the occasion someone would receive a card. Although a practicing Catholic, she was baptized at Concord Baptist Church where she served for over 30 years until her health declined. She leaves to celebrate a wonderful and well-lived life her husband, Deacon Willis C. Williams; six daughters Deacon Bernina W. Grady, Mary M. Barksdale, Rosita D. Farrar, Gail K. Bell, Willis C. Williams,Jr.; Toni D. Hunter (James) and Monique Little (James); grandchildren Monica M. Barksdale, Sean A. Grady, Sherron Grady Steptoe (Howard), Willie E. Farrar, Jr. (Katrice), Samuel J. Bell, Willis C. Williams, III, Brett Williams, Brandon Williams, James Hunter (Genice) and Quianna Thomas (Reggie), 23 great-grandchildren, and 6 great- great grandchildren, and special daughter, Honey B. Loyal, a host of other family members and friends.
