Vinie D. Derden

Vinie Delores Derden, the daughter of Rufus Derden and Flossi Harris, was born and raise in Baltimore Maryland on July 26,1934. Vinie was lovingly called "Earlene" by family and friends, and she was the oldest of four siblings of Evon, the late Shirley, Claudette, and brother Gene, Earlene had a lengthy illness of Alzheimer's disease, and the angels took her soul in peace on October 13, 2022. She loved and believed in the teachings of Islam from the Honorable Elijah Muhammad taught to her by her step-father Ned and mother Flossi, starting in 1957. Baltimore public school is where Earlene received her formal education, and she was employed for a long time at Carl Lowery Glass Company and My Cleaning Company until she retired. Earlene was a woman of wisdom and she always had works of wisdom in helping family and friends make decisions in matters of life. Earlene loved buying exquisite clothes, and she had a unique ability to match close and look glamorous and elegant. She had a hoe sewing machine by which she made many of her clothes herself. Earlene had a passion for watching day time soap operas on TV such as "Day of Our Lives," "As the World Turns," and "One Life to Live" and she faithfully watched such shows when they started in 1956 until they were cancelled in 2014. Earlene was brilliant in money management such as keeping a good amount of savings in her bank account, a zeal for buying items only when they were on sale, so that she could save money; and she was highly praised by Baltimore store owner for having an excellent credit rating, and always paying her bills on time, with no late payments and no missed payments. Earlene loved collecting Black History art that she displayed throughout her home. Earlene was a great mother to five children: Linda, Darlene, Do, Zakki and Denice. Three of her children were from a union between her and James Sparks. Earlene leaves to cherish her memory: her surviving children: Linda, Darlene, and Zakki; her sister Evon, and cousin Carolyn; nieces: Myra, Lisa and Lynn; grandchildren: Malika, Darty, Duryea, and a host of relatives and friends.
