Vilma Grayson

Vilma Grayson was born on April 16, 1946 to Vilma and the late Foster Melvin Tuck in the city of Baltimore. She put up a great fight as she battled with cancer but lost the struggle on Wednesday, December 4, 2002 as she departed this life.Vilma, “Bumbaby” to most of her family and friends, received her education in the Baltimore City public schools. In 1962, Vilma became a mom when she gave birth to the now deceased Antonio Alonzo Jones. In 1964 she was blessed with another son, Otis and in 1966, a daughter Dina.Bumbaby was a caring, fun-loving and giving person. She loved her family so and would do whatever she could do for them and others. Bumbaby was well known throughout the old neighborhood and will always be remembered for the mother’s day flowers she and her mother would make and sell back in the day.In 1986 she began to work for the Union Memorial Hospital where she was a very, very dedicated employee for sixteen years.Vilma leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Joe Moe Grayson; one son, Otis Harmon; her daughter, Dina Brown; seven grandchildren, Antonio Jr., Deondre Jones, Donte’, Marte’, Shante’, Harmon, Myron, Trayvon and Melvin Jr. Grayson; four great-grand-kids; mother, Vilma Tuck; six brothers, Melvin, Foster, Harold, Lester, Winfred and Otis Tuck; six sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, and a host of other family members and friends.OUR TIME TOGETHER YOU AND II write these words while you yet live. Mother, the first born of my grandmother. I love you and I will always miss you. It’s hard knowing that you have to leave us so soon, but your walk with us is coming to an end.As I sit here and think of us, mother and daughter, I can’t help but think of what God has done. Blessing us with His goodness, his kindness and tender mercies. The precious time that he has extended you and I on this day. “Dina turn me around” as you motioned with your hands. You’re sitting on the side of the hospital bed and I am sitting in front of you. “Bumbaby let me put some lotion on your hand and legs.” As I rub your hands I try and understand the pain you are suffering, but I know not of this pain and it saddened my heart to see you in it.“Are you ready to put your feet back into bed?” You shook your head yes, I turned you around and said, “Bumbaby take your rest, go to sleep now it’s alright, it’s fine. I love you Bumbaby, I love you.The next day you slept, and slept and slept. By nightfall you opened your eyes and motioned to me. Do you see me, Bumbaby? I know that you see me, here is Choo-Choo. Do you see him? Bumbaby blink your eyes. Can you hear me? Do you see me? I know you can. I love you, I love you, Bumbaby go to sleep and take your rest.
