Veronica Nadyne Fields

Veronica Nadyne Fields, affectionately known as Ronnie, transitioned from temporal to eternal life on January 3, 2013, in Richmond, Virginia at home with her loving family at her side. She was born on May 2, 1944 in Washington, D.C. to the late Matthew and Castrenetta Nadyne Zow Young. She was the oldest of five children, two preceded her in death: Dewey Young and Chandra Watson. Ronnie accepted Christ at an early age and joined Shiloh Baptist Church, Harlem N.Y. She later joined Ebenezer Baptist Church in Newburgh, N.Y. where she served as chair of the Pastor’s Aid Ministry and also served on the Youth Ministry. She joined First Union Baptist Church, Richmond, VA., under the pastorate of Reverend Horace H. Wade, Jr., on August 15, 2004. She served as a member of the 50-plus Ministry, the Hospitality Ministry and the Seasoned Praise Dance Ministry. She was an active attendee of the Women’s Ministry until her health would not allow. Ronnie graduated from Steward Park High School in 1959, and attended Orange Community College where she studied accounting. She worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture as an account technician, the U.S. Postal Service, and the Army and Air Force Exchange Services (Commissary). As a commissary supervisor, she traveled throughout the U.S. and abroad (as far as Iceland). She retired after 23 years of public service. The friendships established during her professional career have lasted her entire life. Ronnie was a loving a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, godmother, sister, aunt and friend. She always had an endearing love for children. Those who knew her understood the meek and gently look in her eyes and the no nonsense expressions on her face. Her legacy lives on through her devoted husband: Tyrone Fields; two children: Eugene M. Glenn Jr. (Martha) of East Orange, N.J. and Cheryse Glenn-Jones (Anthony) of Chesterfield, VA.; three step daughters: Lelia Grant of Richmond, VA.., Trisha Thompson (Ricardo) and Nicole Fields of Petersburg, VA.; one god daughter: Karen Lark of Gastonia, N.C. Ronnie was blessed with the eight ‘loves’ of her life, her grandchildren: Kendra (Jovan), Malik, Tameka, LaChelle, D’ashe, Tonisha, Chase, and Sabrina; eight step grand children: Ricardo, Shaquetta, Precious, Tevin, Tyrell, Desmond, Jada and Janae; two great grandchildren: Jovan and Jorden; four step great grandchildren: Smarion, Cameron, Kamori and Carmen; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Longtime friends, Mrs. Lossie Chism and Ms. Linda Mines blessed Ronnie with ‘enduring presence’ during her illness and transition to eternal life.
