Vernell Miles Bradby

Deaconess Vernell Velvia Lee Miles Bradby, affectionately known to family and friends as “Nell” was born in Charles City County, Virginia on July 5, 1936 and entered eternal rest on Thursday, September 15, 2005 at Henrico Health Care Center. Vernell loved the Lord and served him faithfully. She was loved by her family and friends and it was a special joy to be in her company. He r beautiful smile will be forever cherished by those whose lives she touched. She was a devoted, loving, protective and caring mother and a doting grandmother. She gave freely all that she had, and loved with every fiber of her being.Vernell was preceded in death by her husband, Sheriff James N. Bradby, her parents, Joshua and Irma Miles, and her two brothers, Elliott and Milton Miles. She received Christ and was baptized at Gilfield Baptist Church at an early age. She later joined Little Elam Baptist Church and was a dedicated servant in The Bradby Memorial Gospel Chorus, The Senior Choir, and the Deaconess Board. She was a retired employee of Phillip Morris USA. She was an exceptional cook, having spent time in food services at the College of William and Mary and in the Charles City County Public Schools system. She was an avid gardener, extensive reader, and she excelled in home décore.She leaves to forever cherish her memory: her loving and devoted children, Gregory W. Bradby of Charles City, Cassandra King (Antonio) of Mechanicville, Bertha Greene (Alan Wayne) of Richmond and Ernest “Chic” Bradby of Highland Springs; nine grandchildren, Delvon, Dana, Jaelan, Taylor, Christian, Xavier and Kyla Rain, devoted Whitney and Nia MacKenzie; great-grandchild, Alexis; step-daughter, Kathy Jones (Vance); step-son, Steines Crawley (Marcia); two brothers, Daniel (Alice and Joseph (Dion) Miles; four sister, Maggie Miles (Roger), Carrie and Iva Miles and Louise Tabb; mother-in-law, Mamie Bradby; sisters-in-law, Loretta Crawley, Kathleen Carter (Herbert), and Agnes Bradby; three aunts, Beulah and Norris Crawley (Beecher), and Daisy Miles of Buffalo, NY; a host of nieces and nephews, among them devoted, Wayne Miles (June) of Fort Washington, MD, and Kenneth Miles (Sonya of Williamsburg, VA; two godchildren, Kim Bradby and Deona White; several great nieces and nephews and many cousins and friends. She is also survived by three caregivers, Sandra B. Jones, Robin Bradby and Daisy Henderson.
