Verndine Choyce

VERNDINE CHOYCE, was born June 18, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois. Affectionately called “Mama Cuppy” by her great-granddaughter Michal, she was the daughter of the late Louis Roberts and Nellie, nee Suddoth, of Chicago, Illinois. When Verndine was 10, her family relocated to Baltimore, Md. Later, she joined Proctor and Gamble, where she retired in 1994 as a Quality Control Lab Technician. She attended Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School, where she graduated in 1944. She also attended Baltimore City Community College. Before computer terms like “spreadsheet” and “lotus” were known to most of us, Verndine was ahead of the class and excelled in these computer classes to perform her job t Proctor & Gamble. Verndine’s first marriage was to Leroy Ward. Out of this union, a daughter, Dena was born. That marriage ended in divorce. In 1955, she married Charlie Choyce. Out of this union, one son, Anton Choyce was born. Anton preceded her in death in 1995. Strong-willed and independent, Verndine would often share what was on her mine and would earnestly and fearlessly stand by her assessments and opinions. This would especially hold true to those she was trying to help by honestly telling them what she thought about a particular situation or circumstance. If you wanted to known the truth without the sugar-coating, Verndine was the one to ask. Verndine was a true fighter. A testimony of her unwillingness to never stop fighting in a battle can be likened to her long fight with illness over the past six years. When the doctors kept counting her out, Verndine would battle back time after overcoming challenging and debilitating illness. Seeing that his child was growing weary in this battle called life, God called her home in the early morning hours of Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Seasons Hospice at Northwest Hospital in Baltimore, MD. While confined to her bed over the past few years, Verndine only wished she could walk again and be mobile. Now, she is free to fly with the other angels, and is once again reunited with her late sister Evon Saunders, brother, Harold Stradling, and grandson Garner Delk, who Vernadine saw in a dream just days before she transitioned peaceful from her earthly body into her heavenly body. The blunt and beautiful spirit of Verndine will be greatly missed. Her bold presence and inner and outer beauty truly transformed anyplace she would be. A stickler for pristine hair and nails, she always wanted to make sure she looked good. This even held true when she was in the hospital. Her nails were manicured and polished, her hair combed and styled, and her skin glowed with a radiance that would light up even the darkest of rooms.
