Valerie C. Moore

VALERIE, our beautiful ray of sunshine was born on Tuesday Oct0ber 14, 1947 in Washington, D.C., to James Lewis and the late Clara Dyson. Valerie was given the nickname “Bunnie” as a baby by her Mother because she was as cute as a bunny rabbit. At the age of 9 Valerie was blessed with an additional loving father when her Mother married Jerome Dyson on August 25, 1956. Valerie became a big sister on March 5, 1958 when her sister Beverly was born. Valerie accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age and on January 23, 2019 Jesus Christ lovingly reached down, took Valerie by her hand and led her to her heavenly home where she was reunited with her parents Jerome and Clara Dyson, grandmother Elenora, nephew Tavon; Mother-In-Love Lorraine; Brother & Sisters-In-Love Maurice, Barbara and Michele and other loved ones who had gone to Heaven before her. Valerie received her education in Baltimore City attending 118 Elementary School, Booker T. Washington Junior High and Frederick Douglas Senior High graduating June 1966. Valerie went on to continue her education at Coppin State University. Valerie’s first job was working nights at the Baltimore Gas & Electric Company on Lexington Street. Valerie would often fondly recall how although her Mother was very proud of her accomplishments, she wasn’t thrilled about the idea of her daughter having to work late at night. Clara’s mind was quickly put at ease because after getting off of work at the Post Office Jerome Dyson would walk to Valerie’s job, wait for her to get off and they would catch the bus home together. Valerie was taught to how to drive by her father James Lewis. Valerie’s mother Clara became friends with Lorraine Moore, as a result in 1952 at the age of 5 Valerie met and became friends with 6 year old Alvin Moore. Alvin the boy who loved to aggravate her, became Valerie’s best friend and grew into the man that would become the love of her life. Although Alvin had to propose twice the 1st time he asked Valerie she said wanted her freedom & didn’t want to be tied down. While stationed in White Sands New Mexico Alvin received orders to go to Vietnam. Prior to going to Vietnam Alvin being ever so determined to get his Queen flew to Baltimore, took Valerie to Lafayette Square Park sat her on a park bench and proposed to her again! This time she said yes! Alvin returned from Vietnam July 1971 and on July 17th, 1971 Valerie married Alvin Moore. Out of there union their daughter Cappri was born September 19th, 1972 and their son Stephen was born April 2nd, 1976. While Alvin served in the Army, Valerie and their children traveled the world with him including living in Mainz Germany for 3 years. The love Valerie and Alvin shared was evident, they were lifetime best friends and every Friday was Date Night. Valerie’s favorite color was yellow and just like the beautiful color she loved Valerie could also be described as beautiful, warm, fun, and exciting without being loud or angry. Valerie’s LOVE for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was evident by the unconditional love she extended towards others and the fact that when faced with life’s challenges rather than complain she bore her pain with her beautiful smile and prayed putting her FAITH & TRUST in God would say “as long as I keep my hand in God’s hand everything will be okay”. Valerie was a kind, loving, beautiful, devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, family member and friend who was loved by all. Valerie will be lovingly remembered for her love of family, her love and faith in Jesus Christ, her contagious laughter, huge heart, gratefulness, her willingness to listen, encourage, lend a helping hand, impeccable fashion sense, breathtaking interior decorating skills, her love of reading, going to church, making jewelry, shopping, cooking, throwing the best cookouts, dancing, listening to music (Marvin Gaye, Patti LaBelle, Luther Vandross, Smokie Robinson, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Maxwell and Earth, Wind & Fire were some of her favorites). Valerie was preceded in death by her loving parents Clara and Jerome Dyson and leaves to mourn a family who is thankful to God for allowing them the blessing of loving and being loved by her in return her husband Alvin Moore; daughter Cappri; son Stephen, sister Beverly; father James Lewis; 3 granddaughters Destinnee, Nakaylah and Chardae; great nephew Avery, Aunt Charlotte; cousins Krystal, Jerome, Tyren; Eleanor and Albert; sisters and brothers-in-love Ralph, Dana, Aaron, Sandra, Emily, Jon, Toni and Mike; Sister-Friends Sylvia, Ronnie, Gale, Betty, Cheryl, Willie and a host of other loving family members and friends.
