Valerie R. Hunter

On August 7, 1965 God bestowed a unique irreplaceable gift upon the world, Valerie Regina Hunter, born to the late William and Olivia Hunter. Valerie was one of six siblings and a mother of four children, whom she loved dearly. Valerie attended Baltimore City Public Schools and graduated from Laurence G. Paquin High School, which was one of the first schools in the nation that provided an exceptional education and training for young mothers who were pressing towards inevitable success. Valerie attended the Philadelphia Bible Institute and Seminary, receiving a certificate in Biblical Studies. Valerie was born again and baptized in her youth at the New Second Baptist Church under Felton Williams Jr. She later rededicated her life after following the broad road that leads to destruction, and finding the narrow path that leads to life and few are on it (Matthew 7:14). She often fellowshipped with St. Stephens AME church, by participating in their worship, communion, and Vacation Bible School. Valerie was employed with Baltimore City Community College as an Administrative Assistant for over seventeen years until she retired in February 2016. The staff, faculty, and students all had a special adoration and respect for “Ms. Valerie”. She was indeed a valuable asset to the administration and to the students she interacted with during her career. A demonstration of love toward Valerie is when her supervisor, Diana Zilberman, donated her own personal leave to allow Valerie to continue to recover at home while maintaining her position. When Valerie walked into the room, she was noticed for her bright and contagious smile. The Calm Presence from within flowed from her into everyone around her. Valerie had an open heart as well as an open home. She was very family oriented, with an overwhelming passion of love and support for everyone. Valerie also had a very humorous spirit; she was stylish, classy, and particular with her attire. Everything had to be coordinated! After conquering all battles and obstacles, she finally lays at peace. She is and will continue to be honored and cherished by her loved ones 3. As she sleeps, those of us who are awake are: her siblings, Mary, Alton (D), Donald (Tavia), John, and Evette (Anthony); four children, Tiffany, Nicholas, Diamond, and Christopher; five grandchildren, Dariele, Kingston, Elijah, Zyion, and Christopher Jr.; five nieces and nephews, Damien, Bukola, John Jr., Nicole, and Tavien; and one great nephew, Jabari.
