Toney Curtis Jennings

Obituary “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: And not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” – 2 Timothy 4:7-8 Toney Curtis Jennings, our beloved brother, peacefully fell asleep on Sunday, December 21, 2025. Toney, known by many as “Tumberweed”, was born on June 10, 1958, to the late Lavinia McGilvary Jennings. He was educated in the Richmond Public Schools, where he developed a passion for drawing. Some of his artwork was displayed in Thalhimers Department Store in downtown Richmond. During his younger years, his love for swimming led him to become a lifeguard. He was known to be a fighter because he defended many of his childhood friends. Toney worked in the construction field for many years and held several supervisory positions before his health began to fail. He loved working outdoors. He loved his family. Toney was always sharing words of wisdom with his nieces and nephews, trying to encourage them to be their best. He loved dancing and singing. His favorite song was “Beautiful” by Dru Hill. Toney was a die-hard Seattle Seahawks fan. He referred to Russell Wilson as his “homeboy”! Toney’s illness was met with the compassion of several caregivers, most notably his devoted brother, Robert whom Toney lived with for many years; his sister, Marlena, who cared for him for over a decade; and Claudette Battle, whose loving care was deeply appreciated. Awaiting Toney in heaven is his mother, Lavinia Jennings; a host of aunts, uncles, and several other relatives to include his sister-in-law, Sharron Jennings (who lovingly served as his caregiver for many years), and devoted friends, Deborah “Footie” Bailey, and Buumble. Toney leaves to cherish memories to his loving family and friends, which include his daughter, Jamesha Spencer (and siblings) brothers, Charles Jennings Jr. (Linda), Robert Jennings, and Michael McGilvary (Sharon); sisters, Alma Christian (Carl), Theresa Jennings, Deborah Jackson (Hollis, deceased), Marlena Jennings (Irving) and Deanise Scott; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
