Toney H. Brown

TONEY H. BROWN, son of the late John and Dora Brown, was born on October 1, 1932. He peacefully entered eternal rest on December 16, 2013. Toney received his education in the Baltimore City Public School System. After serving in the United States Army, Toney was employed at the Bethlehem Steel Company where he remained until his retirement. He married June Ross, and out of this union six children were born. Although the marriage concluded, Toney and June remained friends until her passing. Toney was a God-fearing man who accepted Christ at the Mount Carmel Baptist Church, where he was a faithful member until his passing. At Mount Carmel Baptist, he served on the Usher Board. Toney was extremely honored to serve in that capacity. He will always be remembered for his grand strut down the aisle. Toney did much more than accept Christ, he lived his faith. He found strength, wisdom, compassion, love, forgiveness, and healing through studying the Word of God. He was a man who had a passion for learning. He always read literature or watched programs that made him think. Toney loved children and was often surrounded by children. He was the life of the party with his jokes and stories. Toney held a wealth of knowledge of the family history and readily shared it. He was known for his dapper style and class. He taught us to be proud and reach for the stars. You could confide in him but don’t ask for advice if you were not ready to hear the truth. Most importantly, he taught us how to praise and give thanks to Almighty God. He leaves to cherish his memory: his children, Toni, Roderick, Ralph, Steven, Michael (Bernadette) and Jeffrey; his grandchildren, Cicely, Sherelle, Mikal, Fatima and Shaniyah; his great-grandchildren, Amon, Khalil, Shayla and Shyrah; his devoted brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Gertrude Brown; his aunt, Mrs. Eartha Lee Ginyard; his nieces and nephews, Vanessa Williams, Robin Brown, Margaret (Milton) Ringgold, Terry Boyd, Edward Brown Jr., Rodney Brown and Gary Brown; ten great-nieces and -nephews; devoted cousin, Dennis Thompson; dear friend, Vivian Miles; and a host of other relatives and loved ones.
