Thomas Atkins, Sr.

Thomas Atkins, Sr. the son of the late Elliott Atkins, Sr. and Maggie J. Atkins was born on October 27, 1939 in Baltimore, Maryland. After having fought a most courageous battle with cancer. Thomas was welcome into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July23, 2012. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends. He received his education in the Baltimore City Public Schools, graduating from Frederick Douglas High School in1957. Shortly after-wards, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served for twenty years, retiring with the rank of Staff Sergeant on June 30,1977. He went on to work for the United States Postal System working as a mail handler until his retirement. He had a quiet demeanor, but could talk non-stop about the Lord and sports, especially boxing. He had a benevolent spirit and would do whatever he could for anyone without expecting anything in return. . He always looked out for those less fortunate than himself. He made it a point to keep money in his car to give to the homeless that he would see on the street. He always said we never know a person's story and how they ended up that way, but it was not our place to judge but help if we could in any way. Thomas accepted the Lord Jesus Christ and Joined Bethany Baptist Church on September12, 1994 under Pastor Therm M. James, Sr. he loved Bible Study and enjoyed coming to church to hear the Word of God. He worked in the Soup Kitchen and the Food Pantry Ministry. He served as a Deacon until his illness prevented him from serving. Thomas was a loving and devoted husband to his wife Ethel”Lou” Atkins of twenty years. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather and enjoyed spending quality time with his family. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Ethel Atkins; children, Sunant J. Atkins, Maria C. Herbert (Quinton), Eugene Taylor, Charlene Taylor, Marlowe Taylor (Melva), Darlowe Simpson(Ronald), Cindy Taylor, Sandra Taylor and Tynita Wimbush; sixteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. One daughter, Sunee C. Thompson and one son, Thomas Atkins, Jr. Preceded him in death. Submitted in love by, The Family
