Thelma Mullins

Thelma Odom Mullins, daughter of the late Ally May and Giles Marshall was born on January 7, 1924 in Wadesboro, North Carolina. She departed this life on April 28, 2020 of natural causes. Thelma moved to Baltimore, Maryland in 1943 with her two young daughters, Vivian and Mary. She was first employed as a factory worker at the Domino Sugar plant, then she became a School Aide for the Baltimore City Public School System, and ended her working career caring for others at the Lincoln Convalescent Home as a Nurse’s Aide. She was very active in her community and her church. She was the Captain of the Neighborhood Community Counsel. She received recognition by the Afro several times in the late 1960s and 1970s as a leader and organizer. She won an award for the block clean-up of the Northern District. She also worked on the campaign of the late Congressman Parren J. Mitchell along with his brothers and distinguished family members. Thelma was a dedicated member and usher at St. Paul’s Free Will Baptist Church. Prior to attending St. Paul she was a faithful member at First Apostolic Faith Church under the late Apostle Franklin Showelle Thelma was loved and cherished by many. She opened her home to anyone in need and her heart to Everyone. She was preceded in death by her son, Lawrence Odom. She leaves to mourn: her four daughters, Vivian Russoe, Mary Rogers, Robinette Odom, and Renae Kearney (Herlend Kearney); grandchildren, Danita Russoe, Lawrence Russoe, Sr. (Tongela Russoe), Raechelle Rogers-Scruggs (Keith Scruggs), Ebony Johnson, Tonielle Parker-Brown (Danny Brown), Herlend Kearney, Jr. (Nadene Smith) and Keisha Odom; great-grandchildren, Lawrence Russoe, Jr., Kenneth Russoe, Shauntia Lindsay, Shera Jackson, Raquel Beck (James Beck), Kevin Rogers, Jr., Shanita Ushry (Erik Ushry, Sr.), Sierra Brown, Tobias Johnson, TyRhea Dowery, Shemar Johnson, Xavier Brown, Anyah Kearney, and Herlend Kearney, III; great-great-grandchildren: Lawrelle Russoe, Dayshawn Russoe, William Jennings, IV, Cora Paige Beck, Rian Williams, Ty’Shay McNeal, Erik Ushry, Jr., Kire’ Ushry; and host of other relatives and friends.
