Tamara L. McArthur-Johnson

Tamara L. McArthur Johnson, daughter of the late Sandy McArthur, Sr. and Thelma McArthur, sister to the late Sandy D. McArthur, Jr. and Brian McArthur, was born on January 16, 1962 in Baltimore, Maryland and departed this life on August 7, 2018. Affectionately known as “Tammy”, she attended Western High School and graduated from Mercy High School. Tammy was extremely smart and attended North Carolina Central University, Towson University, Baltimore Community College and Coppin State University. After finishing school, she became one of the youngest employees at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as a Fingerprint Analyst. She later worked as a Manager for several women’s clothing stores and fabric stores. Tammy had two daughters, Candice Johnson and Kristen Johnson-Oyoo, and one grandchild, Tristen Simmons. Her daughters and grandson were the loves of her life. They and any young people that knew her all affectionately called her “Ma”. Tammy loved to sew, dance, listen to good music, watch movies, eat good food, make crafts, go for drives, shop, read and loved to have long conversations. She loved to travel—going to the Bahamas, Curacao, Boston and California. Tammy was active in her community and church. She was the Secretary of Union Memorial United Methodist Church, worked at a live-in home for disabled men and would have “movie night” at her house for all the children in the neighborhood on Friday nights. She loved helping her only grandson, Tristen Simmons, with his school work and with educational games and shows. As a young woman, she liked hanging with her friend Rachael Byrd and her sisters, and dancing and listening to music with her late older brother, Sandy. As a mom, she exposed her daughters so many things – how to eat sushi, classic movies, how to sew and a love for learning. If there was anything you needed, she would do anything she possibly could to help you. She prayed, read her Bible, loved gospel music and had a strong, joyful belief in God. Tammy leaves to mourn her mother, Thelma McArthur; her brother, Brian McArthur; her two daughters Candice Johnson and Kristen Johnson-Oyoo; her grandson, Tristen Simmons and a host of other relatives and friends. She was funny, kind, sweet, stylish, smart, giving, energetic and full of life— her joyful spirit will never be forgotten.
