Susan E. Singleton

SUSAN EMMA SINGLETON, nee Conyers, the eldest of twelve siblings, was bornto the late Water and Sue Conyers on July 20, 1930 in Manning, South Carolina. “Sue”, as she was affectionately called, departed this life on April 13, 2017 after a lengthy illness. Sue receved her education in the Manning, S.C. Public School System. Sue frequently recounted, “I came up with boys.” So many of her treasured memories were based on her early childhood and upbringing in “The South”. Sue was joined in holy matrimony to the late Willie Singleton Sr. in Manning, S.C., in 1952. Not long after, they moved to Coatesville, PA where they began their family. This union was blessed with five children. Four preceded her in dealth namely, Barbara (Barbara Ann), Willie Jr. (Poppa), Leavan (Rock), Carolyn (Tick). As well as one grandson Jonathan (Boss). By 1970, Susan and her family moved to Baltimore, MD where they would settli down. Sue worked for and later retired from “Disabled American Veterans Thrift Stores”, where many family members beneifited from the many treasures that she brought home. Sue gave her life to Christ at an early age and was a member of United Baptist Church. She started every waking morning with kneeling and praying. Sue was a robust, energetic, vivacious woman who literally danced to her own tune. Even as a senior, Sue was fast and always on the move. She prided herself on her strength and often had a “I can do it myself” attitude. She would not hesitate to talk to anybody in the room and would quickly give them the rundown on her love for “Mountain Dew”; her past labor of “chopping down trees”; or her interactions with various family members that she labeled as “crooks”. Sue was quick to tell stories about the “crooks”, which probably spawned her fondness for watching the Judge Judy TV Show. She loved her non-tolerant demeanor. As Sue would say, “Judge Judy don't play.” Her favorite past time were interacting with friends at Overlea Adult Daycare Center, Listening to Chuck Berry & BB King, playing cards, and watching “Price is Right”. Siblings preceded her dealth are Walter Jr., Willie Sr., and Frank. Sue leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Willie Mae Savage; four granchildren, Gregory, Kevin, Shikera, and Antonio; sibling; Mary (Jerome), Clarence (Eleanor), Nina (Carl), James, Tom, Lizzie (Scott), Leola (Charles), and Michael; great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends.
