Sterling Robert Burton Jr.

Sterling Robert Burton, Jr. was born on February 10, 1949, to the union of Sterling Woodrow Burton, Sr., and Myrtle Lee Smith in Richmond, Virginia. Sterling received his formal education at Armstrong High School in Richmond, Virginia, furthering his education at John Tyler Community College in Chester, Virginia. Sterling accepted Christ as his Savior in 1984 at the age of 35 and became a member of Redeemed Assembly of Jesus Christ later joining Founding City Church in Richmond, Virginia. Sterling R. Burton, Jr. was united in holy matrimony with Connie Carroll on August 31, 1985, in Richmond, VA. Their union was blessed with four beautiful children. Sterling was employed by J. W. Ferguson and Son’s as a Printer/Pressman for 15 years. From there he went on to work as a printer at the Seaboard Bag Company. In the year 2000, Sterling R. Burton, Jr. suffered a stroke which forced him to retire at the early age of 50 years old. In life, he enjoyed playing basketball, baseball, skating, listening to jazz, and gospel music, visiting all his family, and barbering. He was known for his love of jewelry, fine clothes, and fragrances. Most notably, Sterling was an educator of all people, teaching anyone that would listen to his wisdom, showing care, and protecting the weak. Sterling R. Burton, Jr. departed this life on August 6, 2023, he was preceded in death by his parents Sterling Woodrow Burton, Sr. and Myrtle Lee Burton, and his brother William (Billy) Haywood Burton, Sr. Sterling leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife Connie Carroll Burton of 38 years who truly embodied the phrase “in sickness and in health”. Sterling was an affectionate, caring, and attentive father to his four children: Sterling Martinique Burton, III (Erica), Eugene Lamont Burton, Nicole Denine Burton, Erica Dichelle Burton-Hayes (Norman). A wonderful grandfather to his eleven grandchildren: Maya and Milan Burton, Markei Crump, Jontae, Jonah, Josiah, and Jeremiah Burton, Naomi Burnett, Kadence, Kori, Kassidy, and Kamilah Hayes. Sterling was a caring and protective brother to four siblings: Mildred Burton, Pauline Burton-Austin (Herbert), Brenda Burton, Garry Bell (Mona), and nine brothers and sisters-in-law. Also, an aunt, and a super-host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
