A TIME TO BE BORN:Those who knew her,knew her name and others knew her just the same. Jesus took her as she was,she has now found rest in Heaven above."The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.Blessed Be the Name of the Lord!" Shirley Myra Virginia Abbie Lee Smith was born on September 8,1937 to the late Shirley & Esther Smith.A TIME TO REJOICE:In 1955,she had her her first child. In 1958,she married Aubrey Otha Wood and together the bore three sons. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a very young age.A TIME TO LIVE:Shirley was a very strong personality and she was not easily forgotten by those privileged to be in her company. She had a quick and a sharp tongue;if crossed she would use both to straighten you out.She was an awesome cook who loved using fresh fruits and vegetables. One of her favorite cousins,Jennie,would often send Shirley bushels of collard greens,sweet potatoes and other goodies from Crewe by Junie,P.D.or Tony. Even more,who in our family has not gone through the thorny briars along the road to pick blackberries with Shirley? Christmas was her favorite holiday and she always chose the coldest day of the year to have her sons lovingly hang the beautiful Christmas wreaths that she had made. Shirley was known throughout Richmond,Crewe and her beloved "Quiocassin" for her delicious one-of-a-kind fruitcakes. She poured much love,expertise and "non-communion serving beverage"into these cakes that garnered tremendous accolades and a little extra money for Shirley every holiday season. Along with cooking,Shirley enjoyed ceramics,watching"The Golden Girls,""Wheel of Fortune,""Jeopardy," and the local and national news.A TIME TO MOURN:She is preceded in death by her father,Mr. Shirley Smith,and her mother,Esther Prosser Smith,two brothers Charles Smith and James Smith. Shirley leaves to celebrate her life a devoted daughter,Rita Blake,three son(her "boys")Aubrey Smith,Rickey Wood and James Wood,Sr.,and one loving and dedicated daughter-in-law,Yolanda B. Wood. Even more,she has three grand-girls(her"girls"that she raised.Pamela Nicole Smith(Samuel),Myra Hall Taylor(Rodney)&Brandy Lamonte` Wood. Her grandsons are Aubrey otha Grier,James Wood,& Joshua Wood. There are four great-grandchildren who love their Gran-Gran Shirley:Justyn Alexandra Bryant,Kyle David Taylor,Seth James Taylor & Bryce Lindsey Bryant. she also leaves a devoted brother & sister-in-law,Robert& Carolyn Smith,two sisters,Esther Mickey & Frances Cosby,a dedicated cousin,Norma Branch(Robert),and a host of nieces,nephews and other relatives and friends.
