Shirley T. Solomon

Shirley T. Solomon, daughter of the late Henry and Pearl Graham, was born on June 11, 1942, Baltimore, Md. She departed this life on June 3, 2005. She attended and graduated from the Carver Vo-Technical High School. She began working at a very young age until landing a full time position with Motor Vehicle Administration where she gave 31 years of service before retiring in June of 2002. She made the best use of her retirement years traveling all over the United States and also Canada where she continued to make new friends. She resided on Harlem Ave., where she was very much loved and respected by all her neighbors. Shirley gave her life to Christ at an early age becoming a member of the Gillis Memorial C. C. Church under the late Theodore T. C. Jackson Sr. She was a lifelong working member of the Gillis Memorial C.C. Church working as a doorkeeper for Christ with the Senior Usher Board for over forty years. For many of those years, she served as Recording Secretary, a member of the United Council Ushers; an Advisor for the Young Peoples Choir of Gillis, and attended Christian Training Union of Gillis as part of the Armor Bearers, which she was so proud to be a part of. Shirley loved children and they all loved her, but most of all her grandchildren. She was a woman who gave respect and in return respect was given. Shirley had a walk of great pride and dignity wearing her silver hair as a crown, a sign of the Queen that she came to be. Survived by: two daughters, Michelle G. Vaughn and Sharon Solomon; son-in-law, Keith Vaughn; two granddaughters, Donkayia N. Graham and Meshaunia D. Vaughn; two brothers, Billy Graham and Bernard Graham; mother-in-law, Matilda Solomon; eight aunts, Renell Demonia of Oxenhill, Md., Eula Mae Rowlins of Hopewell, Va., Betty Williams of Lanham, Md., Rutha Graham of Lynchburg, S.C., Maggie Thomas of Florence, S.C., Hannah Graham, Loise Burgess and Hester Carter of Sumter, S.C.; nieces, nephews, and a host of other family and friends. Preceded in death by husband Joe Solomon, one son Jeffrey Graham; four brothers, Harold, Ronnie, Richard and Stanley; one sister Ivernell.
