Shirley Eldridge

SHIRLEY ELDIDGE, the daughter of the late Ulysses and Millie Jenkins was born October 22, 1941 in Baltimore, Maryland and departed this life on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 after a lengthy illness. Shirley received her education at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. After high school she went to work at Western Electric where she was employed over ten years, that later at Lebow's and Oak Loom's Clothing factory from which she later retired. Shieley met Alvin Eldridge in 1959; she did not know then that she had met her soul mate. After years of friendship and dating they were married on July 18, 1991 which lasted twenty-five years. Shirley and Alvin were able to express their and share their home on Wolf Street with two of their great nieces Jalessa & Tisha Eley who were raised as if their own children. Jalessa and Tisha gave them five grandchildren. Shirley was the youngest of nine children and had the fieriest personality of them all. With Shirley you never has to guess what she was thinking because she always spoke her mind and gave you the raw truth. She would make you laugh and you could count on her sass to tell it like it is with sincerity and love. She was family oriented and very protective of her family. Shirley remembered everyone birthday and always kept in touch with family no matter how far or close. If ever there was a family member in trouble Shirley was the on to call and she had your back. Traveling with family and spending time with them at gatherings were important to her. Shirley always opened her heart and home for her nieces and nephews and had a hand in raising all of them. She was fun to be around and often the life of the party, she loved to have a good time. Her distinct sense of fashion and wrist full of gold bangles matched her vibrant smile. Shirley accepted Jesus in her life at an earlier time and was first a Child of God, Wife, Sister, Aunt, Cousin and Mama who will greatly be missed. She leaves to cherish her memory: a loving husband, Alvin Eldridge; two sister, Jeanette Rice and Cartilla Holbert; brother and sister-in-laws, Augustine and Arlene Johnson, Reginald and Faye Johnson, Stanley and Dorothy Johnson, Diane and Samuel Foster, Kimberly and JR Morris, Cynara and Christopher Amenechi and a host of other relatives and friends.
